If yes, why and if no, why?
Its cruel and beautiful.
It's either beautifully cruel or cruelly beautiful, actually.
Yes, I think life is quite often beautiful because there are many wonderful things to be found in nature.
Life sucks, we're all fleeting, insignificant specks of star garbage than don't matter one jot in the grand scheme of things, and humanity is long overdue for a well-deserved collective karmic kick up the arse.
But other than that, meh, it's alright.
Beautifully cruel seems about right. Pretty much born to die a long slow death (if someone or something doesn't kill us before our lives end on their own) while seeing how much pain and suffering we can endure physically and mentally until we reach that unfortunate end....
I believe it can be. And I believe that as time goes by we will continue to find ways to make life more beautiful.
But even if your life doesn't seem beautiful, then shouldn't you try to make the best of it? It could be that you only have one.
I try to be "glass if half full" most of the time, but childhood leukemia exists. That's also a large contributing factor to my atheism.
Life sucks, we're all fleeting, insignificant specks of star garbage than don't matter one jot in the grand scheme of things, and humanity is long overdue for a well-deserved collective karmic kick up the arse.
But other than that, meh, it's alright.
I've never heard any explanation for why humanity deserves "a karmic kick in the ass" other than how humanity has treated life.
So my question is...if life sucks and we're all fleeting insignificant specks of garbage, then why exactly do we deserve to get our asses kicked for treating fleeting insignificant specks of garbage like fleeting insignificant specks of garbage?
So...REAL question, not a rhetorical one: WHY exactly is humanity long overdue for a "karmic kick up the arse"? If it's SOLELY because we're all fleeting insignificant specks of garbage, then one could make the exact same claim about ALL KNOWN LIFE. No need to single out "humanity", that's also plenty of justification to wipe out the western spotted horny squirrel ("they're just fleeting insignificant specks of garbage, and I need their land to build a supermarket"). And if the reason for humanity needing a karmic kick in the arse is NOT because of ALL life inherently being fleeting insignificant garbage, then what exactly makes humanity specifically deserving of getting its ass kicked?
And again, that is NOT a rhetorical question. Why does humanity deserve a karmic kick in the arse?
@MrGeezer:
These friggin' things:
Humanity deserve to burn just for the existence of this abomination.
Also, for climate change, allowing politicians to exist, bleaching the Great Barrier Reef, deforestation, wars, genocides, ripping a great big hole in the Ozone layer, introducing invasive species that f*** everything up, creating a giant island of garbage the size of Texas in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, and causing the Holocene Extinction event, among many other things. For such insignificant specks of star shit, humanity sure do love to f*** shit up wherever they go. Karma as a concept is about doing shit and getting shit in return, and humanity is long overdue for karma to kick back.
But mostly for the phone pants.

I just watched The Kingsman and found myself empathizing with Samual L. Jackson's character, sadly. At least on the important bits, I didn't much care for who he chose to keep around, but whatever.
If you haven't seen it....
*spoiler*
...he basically want's to save the world by killing people, and save people by saving the world by killing people. His rationale is that the world is sick (climate change) and has a virus, and that the virus either kills the host (the world) or the host kills the virus (humans), so someone needs to step in and find a third solution before it is too late.
It's not entirely original, but I enjoyed it.
@madrocketeer: For starters, I don't see how those cell phone thongs are f***ing anything up. They're stupid, sure, but so what? And even if they were f***ing things up, hardly anyone is making them and hardly anyone is buying them. If it's only a tiny percentage of humanity that has anything to do with the things, then how does that count against ALL OF HUMANITY?
Secondly, most of the other stuff that you mentioned is environmental stuff. Stuff that changes the ecosystem and harms animals and so forth. Which, again, is inconsistent with the notion that you're going with. If life sucks and is just fleeting insignificant specks of star garbage than don't matter one jot in the grand scheme of things, then why exactly would it matter when that life gets snuffed out? You can't act like life is garbage and then act like it's somehow a bad thing when people treat life like garbage.

Yeah, good movie. A little heavy on the f-bombs. And yeah, I could see where he was going. Wouldn't advocate it - just want to see humanity f*** up a little less - but I could see where he was going.

First off, it's called "a joke."
Secondly, like I said, karma is quite simply the concept that if you do shit, you get shit in return. Karma doesn't have the capacity to give a damn that you're an insignificant speck of star garbage; if you do shit, you can expect to eat shit in return, doesn't matter who or what you are. I call it "Cosmic Newton's Third Law" for a reason; even insignificant specks of star shit still have to obey the laws of gravity, laws of thermodynamics, laws of motion, etc.
And you know what? If I want to be a sullen, cynical arsehole, that's my prerogative.

It wasn't a very funny joke.
But aside from that, I'm aware that karma is essentially just cause and effect. Which still makes it seem sort of silly to say that we are over due for a karmic kick up the ass. That might happen eventually, but we're certainly not OVERDUE since there's no set date on when your actions are going to come back to bite you in the butt. It happens when it happens, or it doesn't happen. 'Overdue" doesn't apply.
And yeah, if you want to be sullen and cynical, then go right ahead. It's just that the older I get the more I realize that a lot of sullen cynical attitudes aren't based on much of anything substantial and don't really hold up to scrutiny. I mean, go back to your previous post. You constantly refer to humanity "f***ing things up", but that's a value judgement. Objectively, what we're talking about is "change". Whether that change "f***s things up" or "fixes things" depends on whether or not one things that State A is better or worse than State B. So clearly you think that it's BETTER to not have invasive species being introduced into new habitats, that it's BETTER to not dump garbage into the ocean, and so on. And again, how is that consistent with the idea that life sucks? For the sake of argument, if life sucks, then why is it BETTER to not do the kinds of things that harm life on Earth? In order to save life that sucks anyway and doesn't matter? How does that make sense?

Eh. Everyone's a critic.
It's just a guess of where humanity is at on the metaphorical "karma meter" based on the rough estimation of the amount of raw shit humanity has piled up over the millennia. You're right that karma will kick when it kicks, I just think that based on the amount of crap humanity have been responsible for over the years, it should be happening any second now.
Ah, but here's a funny thing about me: I am simultaneously an idealist and a cynic. Life sucks, but it doesn't have to. We're insignificant specks of star shit, but it doesn't mean we should act like it. With the right application of intelligence and effort, humanity could fix all the shit they've committed and reach for the stars, but they're just too stupid, too lazy, too short-sighted and too self-serving to do so.
And that stupidity, laziness and short-sightedness is exactly what's wrong here. That giant garbage island in the middle of the Pacific that's causing marine life to die en masse? That began with people just throwing shit in rivers and seas thinking they would somehow magically disappear. The 70 million possums currently eating New Zealand's forests out of existence? Fur hunters brought them there because money and f*** everything else. Or what about the albinos currently being murdered and chopped up in south-eastern Africa? Because humans would rather believe in superstitious bullshit than educate themselves in real science. Humans are acting like the insignificant star shit that they are and treating everything else the same, and that's what's making life suck.
The Holocene Extinction event is being compared in terms of scale and geological timespan to meteorites and gamma ray bursts. When your activity is being objectively compared to Earth-shattering natural disasters, maybe it's time to consider that there's more going on here than just "change."
Are you happy?
If yes -such a beautiful feeling, right? it's a beautiful life.
If not- then you have a miserable life.
I believe, life is beautiful because being happy is a choice.
Absolutely. I'm truly blessed in a sense I have a beautiful, amazing partner. A loving caring Dog (nelson the pug). A stable, good, easy job that pays well. A hobby I just can't get enough of (video games). A great supportive family and friendship group. Yes there will always be downs, but if you focus on everything that's there for you in friends, family etc. Its quite beautiful
