If you really like the music of a movie, would you buy the actual soundtrack, or just the movie (since it obviously has the music in it)?

I'm not really talking about songs by bands that are used in a movie, I'm talking about original scores, done with full orchestra, etc.

Recently I got the sountrack for Harry Potter 7 Part 1, cuz I thought it was amazing, and I'm thinking about doing this more often.

Thoughts?

The movie itself often suffices for me.

Nah, such music tends to elicit the best response when accompanied by the images of the film, so to listen to it without them is a weaker experience.

The music itself can still pack a punch. I like this example.

Yes. I have bought the original Lord of the Rings Soundtrack.

Now I am looking for The Complete Recordings versions of each part. So far I have only found and bought the one from The Fellowship of the Ring.

Alternatively, has anyone here ever recorded the audio from a movie and listened to it while picturing the video feed in your head? I use to do this a lot back before all those newfangled video ipods and such came out.

@ TC. No.

I would, if movie soundtracks actually included the songs that were in the movies. Like Casino Royale... they didn't even include the movie version.

It depends. The soundtrack for Twister and From Dusk til Dawn are awesome. Others are better left to be heard with the movie and not by itself.

I bought the Tron Legacy sountrack. If it didn't have Daft Punk on the title, I wouldn't have bought it.

EDIT: Although, I have bought the real albums that contain some songs. Like I liked a couple songs on the Kick-Ass score, so I bought the Prodigy CD that had them.

On occasion. Some music is just too good too pass up. The LOTR and Master and Commander soundtracks were too good to pass up.

Only if I love everything they play. Otherwise if my reaction is just "Cool" or if I can download specific mp3's seperately then I do that.

Yeah. I have soundtrack to the 3 pirates of the caribbean movies. Even if you don't like the films they have great soundtracks to them. It makes driving epic!

I rarely buy the whole soundtrack. Usually I just get a couple songs from it. Like At Worlds End, Revenge of the Sith and the Matrix.

If it is a score I really liked, then yes, I will.

Sometimes I like to listen to movie and video game scores when I am doing things where songs with lyrics can be distracting, like writing.

The only movie soundtrack I have purchased was Tron: Legacy, and that is because I am a huge Daft Punk fan.
