This is in terms that it's bad, u know..like an insult or someone mocking you. Weather it be online or in person do you get offended or upset when someone insults you personally or something about your ethnicity/race. I don't like it when people bash others about being overweight or if it's something about something they can't change such as looks, sexual orientation, or skin color/race. I know an obese person can change but if that's the way they like it noone should be judging. I guess it also depends on the person insulting you and the intentions behind it. So would you get mad/offended if someone made a personal insult about you or your ethnicity, race?

I don't care. But if they insult anything specifically about me, for example my hair etc, then I am bothered.

Well I'm white. And if someone is racist against me I feel at least they have some kind of reason to - especially from a historical standpoint. I'm not saying it's right, but I can handle it.

If people insult me, I'd take it personally, but about my race? I'd probably agree with them.

It has more to do with how they say it rather than what they say.

P.S) I am white, so I can bash white people all I want.

Not so much - that was the government not the people. And then we took all the Asian Americans and locked em up right afterwards. No race based hate is acceptable, but if anyone has earned it I'd say it's "white people"

how much did the U.S give them after releasing them? like a mere 100,000 dollars or something i forgot? the ironic part is *** americans served in the military on the U.S side and even earned high ranked medals such as the medal of honor.

Yeah it's so stupid - and they fought for a country that had their family locked up in a camp somewhere. Lots of great black heroes in the war too but then they come back and it's "back of the bus". BTW according to wikipedia America properly apologized to the Japanese community until 1976

About my race. I'm white, what do I care. We have oppressed people from all over the world so I guess those people are entitled to their opinion.

We (my alt account Meinhard_X and I) do not feel any *personal* guilt or responsibility for the actions of our forefathers. But we are ashamed of some of the things our race/country has done, and are willing to put up with a certain level of distrust/hostility from minorities who might still harbor resentment.

No he does not. (excuse the silliness)

But I really don't think so. We're a lot more conscious about racism these days. Someone not getting hired because of race might even make the news.

That said after 911 there was A LOT of distrust of Muslims / Muslim Arabs. The official stance of the government (I believe) was to protect these people, but violent crimes against them still occurred.

And I'll admit even I (sixth grade at the time) felt a little uneasy around adult Arab males, and it's kind of though not to when your that young and there's a bomb scare.

I told you I feel no personal guilt. It's tough to explain. But if someone else felt hostility towards me because of my race I'm not going to rage him or anything. You're confusing a loss in war with mass persecution. White people (white males in particular) have dominated western society for a long time. Obviously that means nothing, today. But I'm willing to forgive a little narrow mindedness since "we" have committed terrible crimes in the past which could very well inspire hate.

About me, not really... I'm a comic-geek/gamer, I'm busy enjoying those to let their criticism about me stop my enjoyment.

About my ethnicity(race is the wrong word, we're all apart of the human race), I get a little angry since I'm haitian and the country has been hell for about 200+ years, cut us some slack.

I suppose it depends on what they say and how harsh it comes across. If it's in the form of a joke I don't care because jokes aren't really meant to be taken seriously. Honestly though I have never really had this put to the test (or at least nothing that comes to mind) so I don't really know where the line is in this case.

Aye. I was born in 86, I will not be held accountable for anything prior to that, and I'm tired of this "white guilt" crap. I wasn't there in the slave trade, but considering I'm Canadian, and who I am as a person, I would likely have helped in the underground railroad like my ancestors did. I didn't kill off natives and steal their land either. I grew up watching TMNT and care bears until I was 6. What the hell am I supposed to feel bad about? History is to be learned, so you don't repeat past mistakes, not so you can moan about something that happened X amount of years ago before you were born that you are 'owed' reparations for. If anyone wants to complain that badly, go complain to the government, not to me. I didn't do anything wrong, I wasn't born.

These days, however, the distrust/hostility of minorities might be better directed towards themselves. While Western (white) countries are at least making strides towards equality, the same can't be said for many other nations in the world. Racism in any form usually just amounts to the racist looking for a scapegoat for their problems.

To answer the topic, I have a backbone, so if somebody insults me, I stand up for myself. Not that I punch them in the face or anything (resorting to violence would only reinforce their point anyways), but I usually know what to say when it counts.

Wow, some of the white people in this thread feeling guilty should really grow up. You aren't responsible for the harsh treatment of non-whites 50+ years ago. I'm a 17 year-old white American male (born 1992). Should I feel guilty for the the Holocaust? The massacre of Indians? The countless lynchings of black Americans? No. Why? I had no part in that. I'm not saying the actions of past whites are justified, but I'm not going to feel guilty for things I didn't do and things I couldn't control. For the white people in this thread that feel guilty, grow up. All of the things that happened in the past isn't your fault.

*sighs*

On Topic: I definitely care about what people say about me. If it's about my race, I'm only irritated if I know what they're saying is serious.

About me, maybe. About my race, no.

When Obama said that all white people were fearful, I thought it was offensive, but I wasn't personally offended.

I just chalked it up to the fact that he's ignorant.
