I've only seen parts of the first and second Saw films. They seemed to lack substance and to be nothing more than an excuse to display gruesome and graphic violence. Does anyone like these films and consider them to be genuinely good films? I'm currently watching Saw VI on Netflix, just for the hell of it.

Good for horror films. I thought the first four were decent.

When I evaluate a movie, I make it a point to determine what the intent of the movie is and weigh that heavily. You don't, for example, eat a pear and say that it sucks because it doesn't taste like an apple. The Saw movies, as far as I can tell, weren't trying to be anything other than a shock movie with a lot of blood and 'cool' executions. And I find that, for the most part, the films accomplished that.

They are bad, just bad, bad bad, bad in a bad way, so bad they make other things that are bad look good...

OK mayby I'm exaggerating a little but I do find them to be bad movies.

I guess I could call it a series, but I normally use that term for television shows.

I kind of like the story and twists, although most of the twists rely on the fact that "he is so smart he knows who will do what and how".

The first movie has a few interesting questions about how much pain a person is willing to put themselves through by made to pay for their habits. Saw 2 and Saw 3D are truly awful movies though. They either repeat the same questions or don't bother to ask them at all. Without the moral dilemmas it just becomes a slasher movie and not even a good one. From beginning to end its a really nasty, sick series. And its concerning that people actually get enjoyment out of watching this torture stuff. I rated Saw 3D as the worst of the 91 films I watched last year - it was just outright offensive and gratuitous.

The best way for me to put it, they are not bad. I'm very open to horrors although they don't capture the true horror feel, they give something else.

On a side note I noticed whenever I watched SAW in the cinemas there were a lot of girls in the audiance. You tell me why.

I love the "saw" series, even though I found IV and V to be a bit weak. I think they were all very entertaining films. They dont seem like "horror" movies to me. I kinda consider them action/thriller movies.

I only watched the first one. It gave me cancer.

The first was a really really good horror movie...The 2nd one went the "let's be a total gore fest" route and I didn't really care for it as much. The 3rd was decent. I haven't seen 4-6...Nor do I care to, really

In my opinion the first one is the only one worth watching. It was a great psychological thriller style movie without too much gore. The rest are far too overrun with gore

Torture Porn is a very boring sub-genre of horror. I have yet to see one succeed in the genre's goal; to make the audience identify with the torturer as opposed to the victim.

Not a chance. Though I do sometimes watch them on tv to see what creative ways in which they've decided to mangle the human body next.

Nope. I found the first one to be barely above tolerable, and the second was an absolute waste of time (all 15 minutes I spent on it). That's as far as I got into the series. I didn't see any redeeming qualities... they're as bad or worse then the Final Destination movies.

Only the first one was really good, and just because it was not an excuse to see gore. It had a good story. Sequels went increasingly worst.

The first one was a well crafted psychological thriller. The second one...wasn't terrible but it wasn't great either. And after that, the series just turned into a huge gore-fest and they just kept milking it over and over again.

I really enjoyed the first movie. It's a solid thriller and there's not really a lot of gore in it. Than they realized that people only wanted the gore, so they gutted everything good about the film and annualized it.

The first Saw was pretty good, but the rest are awful. It should have ended after the first. Now the series has become a parody of itself. I hope Saw 3D is the last, because it was probably the worst in the series.

First one was good, but then the wheels just fell off and the movie execs just used a rope to drag it to the finish line with the 80000 sequels.

I thought the first one was original and gripping. Then, as soon as the producers realized how profitable the series would be, it went to **** and became solely about increasing amounts of gore.
