I think back in 2003 the American government was mad at france so they renamed french fries to freedom fries.

Have you ever called them freedom fries?? Sounds kind of weird O_o

I could never imagine saying freedom fries, or freedom toast, or freedom kiss.

If I'm making fun of the government yes.

All other uses, no.

I really don't get how anyone thought the French would care what we name our fried potatoes. They originated in Belgium, anyways....

No, I just call them "fries". But then, I'm British, so I'd have no reason to call them "freedom fries".

No. That was incredibly stupid and was the brainchild of the ultra right. They seemed to label anyone that didn't support the government 100% as unpatriotic and insulted foreign nations that didn't 100% support our policies. It is the right of the people to disagree. They shouldn't be criticized for that.

If you want to be reaallly politically correct, call them Belgian fries, because those are where fries originate. They were brought back from Belgium from soldiers in World War.... *Can't remember the rest of the story that Belgian friterie owner told me*

To call it that way is to support Fascist ideals, the fries were called specifically freedom fries because France happened to disagree with the United States..
