Do you feel unappreciated at work?

So I had to work Valentines Day and we were obviously going to be very busy. The owner is real stingy, so he only hired 3 waiters downstairs (me included) and the Manager and another waiter upstairs. We had so much to do that he (the owner) was asking all of us downstairs to do 3 things at once and we couldnt keep up. A couple actually got up and left after one of the waiters forgot to put in their food order because he was so busy, then the owner was angry at him for forgetting to put in the order.
Anyway im rambling...

So after this hectic night youd think that we'd get some kind of thanks or something you know. Even worse is our pay, you would not believe what the waiters (18-21yos) get paid cash-in-hand here. Go on guess. Its $10 an hour, and yes this is Australian (if you can believe that). Whats worse is sometimes he doesnt give us our full tips, so some nights its nothing, and some nights $20 each when the Manager is in charge and the owner isnt there. VDay was $6 each for 4 waiters.

I get yelled at from time to time for not knowing things like how the coffee machine works when I need someone to make something for my table. Thing is, Im continously asking them to show me how it works but theyre too busy to friggin show me! Same with making cocktails! Most of the time when im taking a food or drink order, the owner will come over and butt in and ask the customers exactly what ive just asked them and they give him a weird look. He thinks im some kind of dumb*** or something? Ive only been there a year or so and he still tells me 'Ok mainly I just want you to make sure theres water bottles on tables, and everyone with platters has finger bowls'.
Honestly, would you feel unappreciated by all this ****? $10 an hour to put up with that and more! :(

There are litteraly thousands of jobs to be had, and this is only some kind of student job, not something you need a degree for... move on!

My very first job at 15 (8 years ago) I was boss-boy in a bar-restaurant here in Montreal, I was paid 6.15/hour but made anywhere between 6 to 12$ /HOUR in TIPS. Imagine what the waiters did...

You got a bad job, just find another one.

All the time. My direct superiors are both on holiday at the minute, which sounds great but it means this awful woman from down the hall can come in and bully me into doing her work for her, and what i do is never good enough for her even when i do it exactly like she said.

Luckily there are nicer managers around who are sticking up for me now but its very easy to fell like everything i do here is pointless

Didnt sound too sorry for me but still, yes I am finding another job obviously, I applied for one the other day and im really hoping I get to work there because its exactly the kind fo work I want to do atm. :)

So you dont feel sorry for all of us in here that feel like this because of our jobs? You think we should all quit and find another job (which is not that easy by the way...) ? And I dont like being called a 'young padawan', thats just rude on your behalf laughing at me.

I wouldn't stand by while a manager steals my tips, I'll tell you that much.

You should probably quit. And tell the owner about his thieving manager.

No no, its the owner that steals the tips. You know how stingy he is, we reuse lemon slices that have been on platters and on desserts but are untouched, and put them in fresh finger bowls. How much does a lemon cost really, buy a new one!
The manager was told by the guy (that forgot to hand in the food order for the table that left) about the owner taking our money and hes not happy, but i dont know if hes done anything. You know what else, the only reason i work there is because my friend works there and she got me a job easily. Well, really, her dad is the owner (:shock: i can see your reaction) lol

I'm not laughing at you at all, I just think you need to take SOME responsability for what's happening.. you work in a crappy place that doesn't pay well, the owner steals from you and you're understaffed... been working there for A YEAR... and you complain that they treat you bad. Well seems to me like you've accepted that they treat you bad for a year.
