Of course, this won't apply to British themselves I think, but rather more to people who are from outside the UK. Over XBL and stuff, I have friends from Hull and Newcastle, and I find their accents almost impossible to catch what they're saying.

It's a little awkward cause I can't reply them immediately since I'm still trying to decipher what they just said. Anyone find British accents(besides the Cambridge/London accents) difficult to understand?

I find British accents to be very, very hot. There's that one type I can't stand though. I believe it's called a Cockney accent. Makes my ears bleed.

In general I don't have any difficulty understanding British Accents, but over Xbox Live it can get difficult because of the crappy sound and mic. Sometimes you get chopped up sentences and that's alittle hard to understand. If I speak to a Brittish boy or girl in person or if the sound over Live is good, then I haven't had any problems so far.

By the way, check this video out. It's a tour of the Brittish accents. The guy is actually prettty good. :)

not really, they aren't noticeable anymore. it's more the person I get used to than the general accent though. I was watching craig ferguson and he had a scottish guy on, craig's voice is just natural to me now and easy to understand, and the other guy was just like.. heavy accent.

That's probably it, because when I've only spoken face to face with people from London/Cambridge. The rest are over XBL mics.

Nah, I've yet to have a really tough time understanding any of the British accents I've heard in my life. This is slightly unrelated, but man I have a thing for Irish accents. :P

As for the TC question. Yes, I have the same problem with understanding some british speakers/accents. I'm not sure if its the speed or the shortened syllables or whatever

Step dad's British and I've been to England quite a few times so I'm used to it. A lot of my friends can't even understand the "Harry Potter" movies because of their accent. Can't believe them :P

Why was that :| worthy? Some people from further south in the US have incredibly thick accents. Anyway, I do have trouble understanding some British accents sometimes, despite the fact that I live in Britain.

Ehh? The Newcastle accent is probably the most difficult to understand, but I can still understand most accents. I'm from Manchester myself, my accent is rather posh according to quite a few people.

I made the face because it seems like he was upset and so mentioned southern american accent. I was reading through the responses and his comment just stuck out like a sore thumb.

Well my native language is not English and I don't speak it in my country, but I can say that I find the British English a lil' bit harder to understand than the American... Big influence.

Generally, I can understand British accents, even the Glaswegian accent. However, what do GameSpot users think about Northern Irish accents? I have one, as I am from Northern Ireland, and I have heard Northern Irish accents can be hard to understand.

I find certain accents difficult to understand period, and is even more annoying when you have to deal with someone that has one on the phone, such as a service representative.

I stay in North-east Scotland but I lived in Florida for a brief period of my life, so I have a slightly toned down Scottish accent. I can understand people from all over the UK for the most part but people from the shetland islands (where scotland meets scandinavia, sort of accent)..I truly have NO idea what they are saying.
