do you find this ironic? i find this ironic

i'm sure many of you have seen this commercial

it's like they're addicted to the gum like it's a drug. anyone else find that ironic? i know it's not a "serious" commercial but if it was for cigarettes or something, it would never get anywhere

I found it creepy, though the guy that says "none pays me in gum" ruined it for me.

I think what he is saying is this. Addictions are bad....In the commercial it seems that the people are addicted to the gum, now if the guy had walked into the room and said "I will pay you in smokes or weed" the commercial would never fly, but since it is gum it is ok. Nope, it's not ironic. I'm not sure I understand the drug connotations you suggest either. Its more implying that gum is a commodity with a greater value that cash.
