theres something wrong with you if you think about murder when some one has a differing opinion than you, regardless of how stupid you think their opinion is.

No I just laugh and turn the channel. Nothing I can do until I can go put in my vote, so I don't worry to much about those crazies.

The only one of those who I dislike as a person is Limbaugh. The others, I think, have good intentions but are seriously misguided.

Glenn Beck is a clown, i don't get why so many people take him seriously and get agitated by him. He's like a circus entertainer in a suit, and i think he's just as aware of it as we are. Palin doesn't make me ANGRY as such, she's more a facepalm-inducing character but i think she's a genuinely despicable person on a fundamental level. Limbaugh is obviously just a bigot. Once you just accept that and move on he wont make you angry either. Let them carry on in their own little worlds, i say. So long as they're leaving me alone. :P

Well, Hitler was not a bad person for his beliefs. Many people have thought the way he has across time. He was a horrible person (understatement?) for implementing them. If someone told you they wanted all [insert ethnicity here] dead, you'd probably just walk away from them. However, if that person started offing people will-nilly you would probably call for blood.

haha yea, I know

but a more relevant, real-world example would be Michael Savage. Savage is an arch-conservative radio talkshow guy. Basically, after the attacks of 9/11, he said on his show "Kill Mecca! Kill Mecca! Kill muslims, round them up and throw them in jail..."

Do I get homocidal urges from hearing that? No, of course not. And while I love free speech, you shouldnt be able to potentially incite people like that, especially in such delicate times. All an opinion needs to turn into a movement is a catalyst.

No. Beck and Limbaugh are showmen, pay any attention to them at all and you're just doing exactly what they want you to.

Bush and Palin are just funny.

In fact, Bush seems like kind of a cool guy. Palin not so much, but she's only annoying in a way that SOO many other people in the world are that I don't particularly care too much about.

If someone doesn't agree with the idea of a totally free market (and many don't) that doesn't mean they're stupid. People have different opinions, it's just the way the world works.

I do not see how. As long as the intolerant are not harming anyone why not leave them to their own devices? Tolerance does not mean one must accept their views, I see it as a "Live and Let Live" kind of policy.

I don't think they do. Seriously. If a person is a racist and wants to preach hatred towards innocent people i absolutely believe we shouldn't let them.

I completely understand. I just feel that there will always be people who breed hate, always, and as long as they keep to themselves and refrain from harming people then they should be allowed to feel what ever they wish. They are not harming anyone. If and when it starts to escalate I am for stomping it out with extreme force, but otherwise I do not really see the point of caring all that much.

I see what you mean. We don't need thought police by any means. Bigotry in privacy, i suppose, but it's sad that we have to expect society to include the bigoted, the racist etc. That's just life though sadly.

I suppose in a soulless, perfect society full of philosopherizing, emotionlesspeople this is true.

But the fact is it is difficult enough for most to have faith in mankind, and when you have people spouting off nonsense about who is superior, who we should scapegoat, why x race is inferior to y race, it is killing mankind and progress.

I am sorry, I love dealing with hypotheticals and stuff, but in the endI will always argue for reality, and yes...I understand the very thin, slight dash of hypocrisy of not tolerating intolerant people, but we are only human.

And do you know why?

Because while a person has no reason to hate black people, I have all the reason in the world to hate him.
And when a person generalizes all fat people because he saw one in a fast food restaurant, I have all the reason to want to kick his ass.
And if a person makes the false assumption that brewers are alcoholics, I have all the reason to resent their opinion.

I make up for this "intolerance", however, with freely-given forgiveness though lol

For one, the assertation that people who don't buy into this total free market mentality hate the free market is absolutely ludacris. Many communists don't even hate the free market, Marx even had a grudging respect for Adam Smith and based some of his theories on free market thought. The free market is good for some things, but there are limits to its application. There are instances in which it can be abused, there are commodities which are vital to people's well-being that shouldn't be controlled by profiteers, there are concerns of long-term damage caused through profiteering methods e.g. the Gulf spill, and there are some theories that are simply untrue like the idea that vendors will always sell at the lowest price possible or that profits will naturally trickle down. I don't hate the free market, it's great for creature comforts like televisions and computers and such, I just don't think it can be entrusted with the operation of industries that have such far-reaching effects.

This.

I'd be willing to wager money on how many of you who hate these people with a passion have actually listened to anything they've said. I grew up hating them too because I was told to.

Credible reasons to hate Glenn Beck: "Obama is a racist and has a deep-seated hatred for white people." "Obama is a socialist and is taking this country towards a communist, authoritarian state." "I am sorry that i lied about whoopy goldberg stealing a seat on a train, that story wasn't true and i'm sorry Whoopy." *three hours later on Fox News* "It was totally uncalled for what they did on that show, ignoring all the real issues and OF COURSE all that nonsense they accused me of wasn't true at all." Reasons to hate Sarah Palin: "Barack Obama pals around with terrorists." "Obama's healthcare plan will implement a 'death panel' which would kill my downs syndrome child" (she posted this on her facebook profile in a statement 'to america') "I don't understand why people would believe the worst attacks on your personality just because it's reported on the new" - absurd hypocrisy from a woman who has come out with ridiculous, underhand and completely untrue attacks on Obama's character on dozens of occasions. Reasons to hate Limbaugh: "Have you ever noticed how all composite pictures of wanted criminals resemble Jesse Jackson?" "Look, let me put it to you this way: the NFL all too often looks like a game between the Bloods and the Crips without any weapons. There, I said it." "They're 12 percent of the population. Who the hell cares?" [To an African American female caller]: "Take that bone out of your nose and call me back." "Obama's entire economic program is reparations/" People do not hate these folks because they are told to. They give plenty of reasons to hate them straight from their own mouths.

[QUOTE="surrealnumber5"]no, because i am not a homicidal wack job who is out to kill people for their political view or more so because another media outlet told me they were bad.Atmanix

This.

I'd be willing to wager money on how many of you who hate these people with a passion have actually listened to anything they've said. I grew up hating them too because I was told to.

I've listened to plenty of what they've said, and it's total crap. Anywhere from fundamentalist propaganda to blindly spouting off libertarian rhetoric. Even if you do consider yourself a conservative, I hardly see why you'd want someone like Beck or Palin representing your beliefs, they're basically just following an economic theory that they know very little about and supporting it with sensationalistic talk. So that's why I hate them, not because I've been told to but because I arrived at that conslusion through logic and reason. In fact, growing up I was told that people like them were right.

[QUOTE="surrealnumber5"] i said "hate the free market either dont know what it is or are as smart as salmon" now salmon are great they can find their birthplace from anywhere in the world. i cant do that and i am in mensa, there is also nothing wrong with not understanding the free market especially the idea of property rights and more so our lack there of.

A person who does not like the idea of a free market could formulate just as reasonable and credible an argument as anyone else could in favor of it. Just because you disagree does not make that person stupid. Was all i was saying...

[QUOTE="surrealnumber5"][QUOTE="mrbojangles25"]

sorry dude, their are limites

*ques the Hitler analogy*

You know, Hitler had an opinion of the Jews...

he also took action against them. i think people who hate the free market either dont know what it is or are as smart as salmon, but till the day i start cracking open these peoples heads to see if i can find a salmon brain there is nothing wrong with my view. there is nothing wrong with an opinion no matter how unfounded, taking action can and often is vary wrong.

I don't hate the free market, it's great for creature comforts like televisions and computers and such, I just don't think it can be entrusted with the operation of industries that have such far-reaching effects.

in a free market property rights reign supreme , if people still had property rights then BP would have unlimited liability for their actions, as they should, you know what just view this

They give plenty of reasons to hate them straight from their own mouths.

pretty much this.
