I have a speech tomorrow and yes, I get nervous as hell. Worse, my teacher (though she is absolutely wonderful) knows exactly when you are nervous, lying, or sexually attracted to somebody simply by looking at you.

Outside of school, practice shaking violently and immediately pausing the shaking. This will train your ability to control your shakes.

Find a source to draw out the negative energy. For example, take a bubblegum wrap. Hold it in your hand, try and focus on it (move it around in your hand, whatever you can think it), it'll make you forget about being nervious. That, or practice shake control like mentioned earlier.

While it was originally a joke, WGTC007 has turned it into something more interesting.

Your not alone. Rehearse a lot before hand. You will only improve by doing more of it.

Ah remembered something !, I learned once from an NLP course a way to overcome nervousness . It goes like this, try and relax sitting comfortably, breathing slowly and remember an event where you were very confident of yourself, try to remember the day the weather the smells, the sounds and how you felt. Then make a posture with your hand or both hands and squeeze tightly. Practice this and then use your posture to trigger that confidence and help ease up on the nervoussnes.

Then just go with the basics, rehearse or, think happy thoughts (if that helps)...

I get nervous but only to the extent that it is helpful and not harmful. Being nervous is not always a bad thing. The goal is to stay focused on what you are doing while you are speaking. Beforehand, I actually have to do something that will make me think of other things. Thankfully, most of the time I speak is in churches so I'm able to clear my mind while singing songs in worship. While that might not be an option for you, keep your mind focused on something other than the fact that there are other people that are hearing or are going to hear you. My public speaking experience includes teaching Sunday School for several years, preaching a number of times in several different churches, class presentations, and in high school I did a lot of presentations for a robotics team that I was captain of.

I used to be scared of speeches to the point of shaking, and other people could see it, but now I'm not. I'd rather not do them but if I was told to, I could. (Without shaking!)

Yeah, I cannot do public speaking. My voice starts to shake, I start to sweat, I start to stutter, my whole body goes wobbly, I do impulsive nervous things (touching my hair, doing things with my hands, etc.). I get so ridiculously nervous. I can hardly speak to more than five people without getting nervous.

It's kind of a strange experience for me, mostly because I love giving speeches, but when I get up there, in the middle of my speech, my voice seems to start shaking, like I'm about to cry! I have no idea how or why that happens!

If you have a podium, then put your paper down which will reduce the obviousness of your shaking. Know your speech as well as possible, so you can even walk around a little if you want to. I also recomend watching some speakers from TED, not all of them are great speakers but if you pay attention to their body language it might help you some.

Not anymore. I took a Speech Communications' class my senior year of high school that really helped my public speaking.

I do get pretty nervous sometimes, but that's only because I worry about what the teacher thinks and what grade I will get on it. Usually when I get in front of the class I feel very comfortable and relaxed, mostly because I know nearly everyone in the class.

I'm kind of weird: I'm nervous as all hell before I start speaking, but the moment I start speaking all of the anxiety vanishes just like that.

Normally I'm the exact opposite: perfectly fine until I have to speak, then I freak out.

"Okay. It's just a speech. No problem. Everybody else has to do one, no fear. You know what you gotta say, and you're not nervous, this is good, this is. . .oh ****, it's your turn!"
