Gamestop has a horrible reputation from gamers and for really good reason. The gutting of brand new copies of video games, the scratching and dirtying of discs when moving them into those small little paper envelopes, the lack of care for their used products that are in plastic bags hanging on the wall, the horrible treatment to their own employees, etc. I stopped supporting Gamestop years ago and strictly buy my video games online or at work (Target). At least when I buy new video games, I can rest assured that all bonus DLC and any cool things that come with the game will actually be there with the game. One time I bought a "brand new" copy of Resident Evil 2 for Gamecube at Gamestop and the manual was missing because the games case was on the shelf where anyone can go grab it, open it, look inside and take whatever is inside. I was pissed because the guy sealed the case with their special tape before I could see if he put everything in it. He didn't and he didn't tell me the instruction manual was missing. Obviously I could not return it the next day because I opened it.

Today I go to Gamestop to buy a used game to see how I like it and then return it in one or 2 days for a full refund. I've had times where I would even say it in the store in front of the manager. He gives me bad looks when I come by every time lol. It's not like I'm hurting anyone though and it's not my fault Gamestop is such a POS company so, I come in, buy it and then come back the next day. One of the employees even tells me, "See you tomorrow?" when he rings me up. I usually do it weeks apart but lately I have been doing it almost 3 times a week. I'm starting to feel like they might put me on their blacklist and prevent me from buying anything from their store soon. I wouldn't really mind being blacklisted from Gamestop but I would miss "renting" games before buying them instead of relying on Youtube for gameplay and peoples opinions.

Is anyone here doing what I'm doing or am I nuts?

I only went once last year and that was to get rid of the shit I don't use anymore. Got a Pro out of it. It was a horrible deal but I couldn't be bothered posting crap online and making arrangements with strangers. If I had the time I would probably be doing what you are, but I'm lucky if I can beat 4 games a year.

A friend of mine gets his games from the local supermarket and returns them for a refund 3 months later after beating the game.

Same here. I'm taking full advantage of "renting" out their games and then buying a brand new copy of them online with the same money.

I know what you mean. There is a local electronics store that also buys video games, consoles and movies who pay a lot better than Gamestop. The store buys your stuff for at least 50% of what they sell it for. I don't know how much Gamestop buys for. I hear a lot of people say that they get offered $12 for games that they are selling for $50. At the store I go to, I would get $25 or sometimes more.

That's hilarious! Sounds like me and your friend have that in common, haha.

I would say just don't go there anymore. If with what you're doing, you're a +1 to their numbers to help that store stay relevant. They're shutting locations now, and if you're helping that store stay busy, then it might not be one of the selected stores to close.

I very rarely ever go there, only as a last resort if I can't find what I'm looking for elsewhere. I wouldn't do something like that though because I just keep the games I buy as I like to collect them as well. Also don't want to be bothered going back and forth returning games and would rather just play them at my own pace. I don't even bother with renting games anymore because of this as well.

You may get blacklisted.

At the same time, Gamestop apparently stresses to their employees to sell pre-owned/used games. And ask customers if the employee did mention used games during checkout. But if the employees are playing smart with you. They're likely getting annoyed with you.

Man, I think the last time I set foot in a Gamestop was when I went with a friend to stand in line for the Halo 3 midnight launch.

I haven't been to GS since The Order 1886 came out. I buy my games from Amazon, the PSN and XBL.

When I worked at Best Buy we had a policy that if you bought a TV From the end of January to the day before the super bowl you only had a 3 day return period. (The rest of the year it is a 30 day period). We did this because people would buy a big TV the week before the Super Bowl and return it after the game; not just one person did this, but multiple did this. Once a TV is returned we couldn't resell it as new, so it was hurting our store performance.

What you're doing is similar, but for now you're the only one doing it. And they can resell that game to someone else for the same price. If you tell all of your friends what you're doing and they start returning used games weekly then yes, that store will probably have to change their policy. (All Gamestops have a used game return policy, but they never mention it because they don't want people doing what TC is doing).

Most people don't have the time or put forth the effort to keep going to the store every 3 days, let alone beating entire games in 3 days. So I don't think it will become a big problem for the store. So for now you're just annoying to them, but I wouldn't tick them off or they could start refusing service to you.

Edit* I think the policy is 3 days. I'm not sure. Might be a week

I stopped shopping there after they kept trying to pass off used games as new. They would push used games on my very hard, and I'd still request a new one. Then they'd pull that crap on me. Dishonest.

Not a ton of people are buying and trading in with them, which is why they are going to fold. Their fault. Pushing me to buy shit I dont care about in the store, and ripping me off when I would trade in a day old game.

I buy relatively frequently from there, but I never resell. I don't tend to resell my games in general, but Gamestop is the absolute last place I would go for that.

Except you can get flagged if you do that. I did that once as a kid and the dude there "put a flag next to my name". Or something.

I shop at JB Hifi anyway, so it's not an issue for me.

No worries. You guys are so much more friendly and hip to speak with. Talking to EB employees is like talking to wannabe Americans for some reason.
