I am 14 and I want to get Rainbow Six Vegas, I have Gears of War so it's not my first M game, but I am going to try to get it without my parents at target today.

No, they'll ask for your parents unless they're irresponsible little people who need to be fired.

Target IDs you when you buy M-rated games now? Things sure have changed since I was younger. I remember buying M-rated games when I was fourteen, I don't think any game store ever stopped me.

Target checks ID's to make sure the person is at least 17, so the answer is no I'm afraid.

If they're dumb enough...

Bear with me - I don't think they should restrict you from buying M-rated games. It's a form of censorship, and all censorship is wrong. If you go to a Barnes & Noble you can buy books by the Marquis de Sade regardless of your age. A google image search will show you *a lot* more than that biology book from health class ever did, and watching R rated movies is as easy as staying up until your parents fall asleep. So what prevents you from buying "The Joy of Sex" at age thirteen? Your parents. This *all* comes down to parents. We shouldn't arbitrarily say "this kid is fourteen, he's too young to play Rainbow Six Vegas" because ultimately we don't know that. We don't know how mature this kid is, we don't know whether it's just going to be a game, or whether he's not ready for it - his family does. Now I'm sure I'm going to hear "well then his parents can buy it for him" - but that's missing the point. We shouldn't write into law that certain content is not acceptable - we did that with the AO-rating, now any game that shows adults in consentual acts are gone from stores shelves. Gad-forbid that FF7 would have been a better game if the cloud-tifa love affair could have been more than hinted at. Instead we limit what videogame makers and ultimately moviemakers can show, or else they lose sales - without any regard for redeeming value, or the possibility that it's okay for something to be base and simply entertaining. We let lawmakers make value-judgments for us, and it's a slippery slope to Jack Thompson's dreamworld where the only videogames that exist are ones where you answer bible trivia in order to unlock pictures of pastoral scenes.

Maybe if you try and look older, like growing some facial hair or sidburns they will. If you can't, you can put your friends pubs on your face and make it look like you have a beard. Or you can pay some homeless dude to buy it for you.

Well ok if you want Vegas really badly I suggest you show one of your parents some gameplay videos (but make sure it isn't a video where it features most of the cussing, 'cause Vegas is full of it), and after some good persuasion either your mom or your dad might get you, and make sure you turn the volume low so your parents don't hear all the cussing from where ever they are.Flaming_Ape
That's somewhat deceitful though, he's ultimately trying to say "look mom, dad, I'm mature enough to play this game." Part of being mature is having the integrity to show people the truth, both about yourself and the things you do. It's their call as to whether or not their son is ready for that game, I'd say show them the cussing and saying "look, it's a few dirty words, but I'm not going to start swearing around the house or join a gang because I heard a few f-bombs" I'd be much more inclined to buy my kid a violent game if he showed me that he was mature enough to come clean with me about it.

I was able to buy CS: S by myself last year, as a 16 year old, at Best Buy. the person who sold it to me asked to see some identification, I gave her my driver's license. My birth date was in 1989, so maybe she just looked at that and say that 2006-1989 would be 17 years. It's kind of hard to explain, but I was able to get the game easily in the end.

I played GTA when I was... 12? maybe 13 or 14 and I haven't done anything that would warrant my parents' suspicion... Unless you talk to my prom date... She thinks the moment I graduate HS I'll become a serial killer.

No, I work at Target.

On the register, for MAture games you cannot ring up the game unless you get an ID or hit the "override" button on the screen which says "Guest Looks Over 40".

If you get a manager or an uptight ass on the register, you won't get it.  If you had someone like me who doesn't care on the register, they'll press the override button.  I'll sell Gears of War to a 5 year old if they have the money, I don't care, lol, just let me go home when I'm off the clock.

There is an override button, just in case the guest obviously looks over 18 or 21, so you don't insult them by asking for ID.  But that button can be abused, I press it everytime, I don't like to bother people about that kinda thing.

My bad, well at least at Best Buy they scanned my ID or some crap and it popped up on the register saying "Age Confirmed". But yea, I was going to suggest to find someone who seems like his age who wouldn't care, but don't go to some stodgy old manager type if you are going to try.
