Why do so many people hate Gamestop? I for one like the place. Now granted at times their salespeople can be pushy, uninformed, and a fanboy/girl but I like having a so-called game specialty store nearby.

Not really, when the salespeople try to give me stupid opinions I just ignore them, and other than that they're usually helpful.
Yes, they took my platform of choice and reduced the selection of games to almost nothing and always try to sell me the console version of games even though I don't own a console...
For the most part its because of customer service, you loss a lot of money when you trade games and they always run out of popular games when they first come out.
I still shop at gamestops... However once I have a bad experience at one store i go to another one and never shop at that store until management changes. And In my area management in gamestops change a lot.
I think that their trade-in deals are a huge rip-off, but other than that I have no problem with them.
i have my problems with them. i don't like them discounting new release "used" games only $5. i don't like them opening the games and selling them at "new prices" i don't like the trade in value for the games.
all that aside i've found their stores nice, their sales associates generally knowledgeable and helpful and their prices aren't any higher than anywhere else. more than anything i like them because theres a larger selection than most chain stores (ie wal mart, best buy) and the prices are comparable
Nope I do not hate them. I go there to buy games that are hard to find. There is a store that is not from a chain that I go to a lot more to buy games though.
[QUOTE="LJS9502_basic"]For those complaining about opened games....it's simple. Don't buy it.;)Theokhoth
Aren't there laws against false advertising? Putting up a used game under the price and label of new games is kinda. . you know. . .unethical. :|
I don't know if they've done that. I bought one opened game once that they rewrapped. They do take one out to display the case. Most of the games I've purchased new there were wrapped already.[QUOTE="LJS9502_basic"]For those complaining about opened games....it's simple. Don't buy it.;)Theokhoth

Wow... I never thought of that...:o Do you think we can sue and get lots of money.
Same here, I only use them for new releases. Otherwise I buy my games at Fry's as they are $10-15 less even for new games.[QUOTE="WarEagle1357"]I've found some of their employees to nice and helpful. I mainly use them to buy really old games or new realeases.Pirate700
I like Frys, but a lot of their stuff is overpriced. They've got an amazing selection, though.
I love Gamestop. :P
Since I live in a city filled with old folk, (60+) I don't need to worry about the new games being gone.
Plus the employees are awesome.

Everything there is overpriced except their games. They have major discounts. That really depends, from my experience. Although I did manage to pick up Fallout 3 for $35 or 40 off there not long after it came out. :D
I was pretty pissed a couple weeks ago when they choked on the Street Fighter 4 deal for $20 the day the deal started. I remember asking the manager about the deal and he told me, "We're not doing that anymore." If you're gonig to advertise a big deal like that all over the web, at least come through on it.
They usually have a date attached to a sale....I was pretty pissed a couple weeks ago when they choked on the Street Fighter 4 deal for $20 the day the deal started. I never use them.. There are 2 in the city center here, but we also have another Game store called Game. Which is alot cheaper, more helpful and the stores are just more pleasant.
This is my main problem with them as well, other then that I don't really hate them.Yes, they took my platform of choice and reduced the selection of games to almost nothing and always try to sell me the console version of games even though I don't own a console...

I don't hate Gamestop, but I don't care for their policy of gutting games. So I usually just ask for a sealed copy from behind the counter. The only problem I've had with them was when I was buying Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood. The only copy they seemed to have was gutted so I took the case to the counter, but the disc was nowhere to be found. It was pretty annoying.
