Do you have music that is toxic to you?

Is there music that you just can't listen to because it touches your soul too much?

I wish I could listen to Nirvana, Alice in Chains, and Tupac, but I can't, because when I do I get depressed and nihilistic and I fall into a puddle of 'sadness.'

Do you have music that is toxic to you?

Yeah, I get songs that make me just go wow, but I never get depressed. As far as people you listed they have other songs besides depressing ones.

The only album I have that makes me depressed is Coldplay's Parachutes but it's one of my favorite albums ever.

Like Souljah Boy, it's bad. It hurts to listen to it. It's like weaponized sounds more than it is music though.

Alice In Chains is, in fact, vastly superior to Nirvana, though Nirvana is great.

But on topic, I can't stand rap, it makes me lose faith in humanity, granted I'm only exposed to the mainstream and am fully aware that's the worst kind.

I think a lot of these poster aren't understanding the question. You mean music that is SOO good, SOO moving it always affects you, it sweeps you off into a certain direction regardless of how you feel right before.

For me that would be Nutshell by Alice in Chains. I could be laughing it up with a bunch of my friends and family, tears in my eyes from laughter and if that song comes on I would get all quiet. My gaze trails off to infinity and after the song is over I am somber, a little sad.

Other songs always do that to me. Come as You Are and Something in the Way by Nirvana. Invisible Wounds by Fear Factory. Everybody Hurts by REM. Father and Son covered by Johnny Cash. Jungle Blues by Winton Marselis.

There's alot of music out there that I find repulsive, but I don't listen to anything "toxic" or damaging. I guess my music only has positive benefits, as far as I'm concerned.

Yup alot of Staind and A Perfect Circle gets me thinking. I listen to certain types of music depending on my mood. If im angry its bands like Through The Eyes of The Dead or Acacia Strain. If im feeling mellow or tired its stuff like Staind, Tool, and A Perfect Circle

I think he is talking about because Kobain, Tupac, and Staley are dead. So it wouldn't matter which song he listened to it would still depress him. Anyway, as for me Linkin Park makes me want to kick puppies and I hate rap and country and most of the stuff that plays on mtv. But I don't know of any songs that make me sad... I know that Lake of Fire by Nirvana makes me happy.

They're not all sad... Listen to something like Electioneering, that's a bit more upbeat.

No. Music doesn't influence my emotions.

If anything I listen to specific music depending on my emotions before hand... something for how I feel to fix itself too.

Whether certain songs bring back horrible memories or they're plain bad, the fact is a song would have to be exposed to nuclear power for it to be "toxic"

I can't listen to Mother Love by Queen, It was Freddie Mercury's last song, he wrote/sang it two weeks before he died, Brian May had to finish the last verse of the song because Freddie became to weak and died before he could finish it. Made in Heaven is just a tear jerker.
