I don't. I'll actually walk down to the crosswalk, because I don't want to be one of those people drivers cuss at for jaywalking. Like today, I was coming home, and this grandmother had her grandkids, like 3 or 4, on the median waiting to cross traffic when the crosswalk was less than 200 feet away! That infuriates me. Risk your own life, but don't risk the life of your kids cuz you're too lazy to walk to the damn crosswalk!

It depends on the street. If it's busy, no. If it's dead, sure.

I currently live in Mass where jaywalking is required, but people here are used to seeing pedestrians. I don't mind jay walkers as long as the have sense.

I do it all the time when I cross the street to get onto campus. I'm always on the lookout for cars though so I know when its safe to do so.

Well, I don't exactly live in a busy city so its not much of an issue. When it comes to it I try to be as safe as possible though. I have a habbit of bad luck which means I can't afford to take my chances.

I live in the UK and jaywalking doesn't really mean anything over here. If the road is clear I'll walk across it.

I'll jaywalk if the opportunity presents itself. Honestly, in South Florida you're in danger no matter where you end up crossing the street :P

To me 'jaywalking' always sounds like some sort of 20s dance or something. 'Do you jaywalk? Well put down that martini and let's go for a twirl.'

You mean, like, walking on out into the traffic at any old place and time? Heck yes I do! Though everyone does 'round these parts.

I've been jaywalking this whole summer here in Germany :P

It's really different here. I'd be dead if I tried to jaywalk back in the USA.

Is jaywalking just crossing the street at a place other than the crosswalk? Or is it also using the crosswalk but crossing when the light is red? If its the latter, then I do that all the time.

Me too. Also central Manchester and London seem to share a special type where you don't even look for a gap you just keep walking and hope nothing hits you, it's normal to see traffic trying to move its way through a constant stream of people.

I almost got myself killed twice when I was in London. Those busses come right up to the sidewalk, and me being an american was looking the wrong way down the street. Old habits.

Depends. I don't live in a big city, so it's certaintly safe enough to cross most roads by jaywalking. The only time I'll really use a crossing is if it's close to where I am.....or right in front of me.

Yes, at my college I do and they don't really care. I get there early enough where there is basically no traffic. But sometimes I use the cross walks. One cross walk is terrible because it's located on a busy street and you are not even half way across the street and it changes to don't walk lol. SOme people have got hit by cars at that cross walk

Yeah. If I need to get to the bus stop that is literally across the street from my apartment (about 100 feet from the front door, but maybe not even that much), the nearest cross walk is about a mile away (I'm not exaggerating that.) Instead, I'm going to walk across the almost always dead street.

It depends on where I am at whether I jaywalk or not. I am not gonna walk a half mile out of the way to get to the bus stop directly across the street just to cross at the light, but I do normally cross at the crosswalks when I am walking most places.

Never if there are cars. I don't run between cars. If there's a light, and the cars that would cross my path are stopped, I'll dash across. If I was with kids or anyone else slow-moving I'd just take the crosswalk, besides being dangerous it also teaches them bad habits to tell them to dash out into traffic. Besides, you generally have to stop at a non-light crosswalk if there are pedestrians waiting, so basically they can wander across the crosswalk whenever, they don't really have to wait any longer because they have the right of way.

Blue-Sky

If we're talking about the "push the button and walk" kind of crosswalk, my dad seems to think that he gets right of way and calls people crossing in front of him various names. He almost ran over one of my friends once, and tbh I'm sure he wasn't the first.

So, very safe.
