I'm told that I am an articulate and intelligent person. Yet, it bothers me that people can be so ignorant and assume you are an idiot just because you don't like to read books. I have nothing against reading and I've read some great books before, it's just that it can bore me and is not my thing. Sad to see that wisdom is a very rare trait among people.I think it would be interesting to see what some of you edjumacated:P people here on OT think about teh books.

It's almost impossible for me to just sit down during my free time and read (unless I've got a book I just can't put down, which has only happened with the Harry Potter series). I just read 20-30 minutes at night to get me tired for bed. It's a good balance.

I don't have a passion for reading, but for some novels like Sci Fi and those ones based on video games, I can't put em down once I pick them up.

I love reading books. People give me weird looks when I'm in the young adult section, leafing through books mainly for kids.

Nothing compares to actually holding a book in my hand to read it instead of reading it on-line.

I never read for pleasure, but on the rare occasion that I like a book I am reading for school, I do enjoy reading it. The last book I had to read, The Picture of Dorian Gray, was one I really enjoyed.

I remember we had to read that for summer reading and everybody HATED it. I never even read it, and we had to go a Socratic seminar on it, and since I had my lit class second semester, I got my friend that had it first semester to email me his answers to the questions and I just reworded the answers. 8)

[QUOTE="On3ShotOneKill"] Hehehehehe people really say that? Well anyway, I love to read books about making games, screenwriting books and educational/self-help books.

I can't remember the last novel I've read. I'm just not that interested in them and would rather read comic books. lol

The fact of the matter is that when forced to read books in school I really enjoy reading them, but in my free time I never have the motivation to start reading a novel.

I love reading... but after the depredation I suffered at the hands of my university required readings in early 2008 (300+ pages a week along with reports on what I read), I've been very reluctant to read very much since then. I've had to slowly wean myself back into it and still find it very difficult to read at home (where I had to do most of this reading for school).

I hope I can get back into it soon, my personal library is growing (thanks mostly to Amazon offering fantastic deals on great pieces of literature) and is begging me to read it. I do however have a 10-page essay that is due this coming Thursday and have to again read a plethora of resources in order to prepare material for my argument. It isn't going to be fun... I can tell you that.

Mind you, I did tonight, as a means of easing myself back into it, start reading Richard Dawkins' "The God Delusion" at work (since I have nothing better to do). It is on a topic that I enjoy, is non-fiction and generally written in a scholarly enough manner that it will help me cope with all the scholarly texts and journals to come.

Since most forum userscannotbear toread posts that are longer thanseventy fivecharacters itseemsmost forum users don'tlike books. I will notspend time on anything other thaneducational books, but even then I'm not a patient person so relevance determines which areworth my time and which arenot. History is my least favorite. Being that the plausible facts within history books are burried within myths & legendsonly suggests that history bookscontain morepropaganda thanimportant information. "It was believed..." UhhI don't care what WASBELIEVED. I can speculate andfantasize myself, soI don't need legendary opinions.

There's a lot of online comics but they suck and it would suck if they stopped being put on paper. SCREW THE TREES! I need copies of comics in my hands!

Nah I've never really got off on reading it makes me tired and seems to slow my brain down after awhile. Instead of imagining whats happening in my head i'd prefer to see whats actually happening on screen, thus the reason why i watch movies and tv shows more so then i read. Though you could say i do read a lot since most of my day is spent on the Internet (yes i need a life i get the picture) but i don't find you have to follow along as much as you do when getting deep inside a book. My girlfriend has tried pushing reading on me a few times but i've never actually got into it much.

Books just aren't my thing i guess...now books with cool pictures is another thing ;)

I have about 2 or 3 books started at all times and as soon as I finish one (which is about 2 days :P ) I just pick up another. It is actually quite scary how many books I can read in a year. Every genre is interesting to me so there is basically an endless supply.

On3ShotOneKill

It is quite good. I'm less than 100 pages in but he really does present his argument quite well and very clearly. Unlike most scholarly attempts to present an argument that just gets bogged down in technical details.

He does have a very no-holds-barred attitude when approaching the topic of religion, which I like. He doesn't pull any punches when it comes to criticizing something though, which can be a little unsettling at times, considering how many people out there would take offence to it. But I find it refreshing to be honest.

Whether reading it as a means of learning more about atheism or just a look into a critical evaluation of religion, it is definitely worth reading.

I don't really like reading books, maybe a gaming magazine or something like that, I've only read a few books, most of them because I saw some sort of movie based on it that got me curious (I'm a big movie buff so I get curious..)
