I thought it was pretty good, the hype has gotten pretty big but I really don't care, Moon is a far better film but I still really enjoyed District 9.Jazz_Fan
Agreed, District 9 was about a 7.5 maybe an 8 for me while Moon was my favorite film of the year next to In The Loop.
The hype has reached the point of absurdity - mostly from computer game geeks who want the director to make a Halo film: 30 minutes of this movie were really good - the mockumentary stuff. But it really wasn't sustained and the movie degenerated rapidly into a straight up action film with little character development. I don't see what the fuss is about really. Its laughable that people on the imdb (yes that ol' chestnut) want this to be nominated for Best Picture. Get real.
I've heard quite a bit about Moon, really looking forward to it actually. But since it hasn't come out in Australia yet, I have to say that District 9 is one of the better science fiction movies going around at the moment, along with Star Trek. I thought it was really different, but still relevant.
It was really good, but it got way too actiony and implausible in the second half, what with them just walking in and out of the District repeatedly, getting into the MNU base and just driving away without getting caught, and whatnot.
I loved it. I love how they filmed it in a documentary way. wow i worded that weird. ANYWAY, yeah i really loved it. I loved the idea of how the aliens came here, and everyone's reaction. it was pretty funny too.
I don't listen to hypes, never see trailers (except on the spoiling cinemas...), or read about movies I haven't seen. For me it ruins the good ones. I'm like Sheldon from Big Bang Theory when it comes to movies.
Anyway, I LOVED the movie. It was fantastic! What a sick character developement!
It was very interesting and quite thrilling. Wasn't it crazy how [spoiler] The main character started turning into an alien, and he could use their weapons and stuff? [/spoiler]

Thankfully, I just ignored the hype and just watched it like it was a normal movie. That helped a lot, because I could actually just enjoy the movie without really expecting anything.

I didn't enjoy it at all honestly. I disliked the mockumentary portions, the action was repetitive and shallow, the story was awful, the characters were utterly cliche, the acting was marginal and the ending was terrible (the rolling text....so stupid). ...only thing that really stood out about the film in my opinion were the visual effects.
