Seasons 1-9 are outstanding. I consider seasons 3-6 in particular to be the best things I've ever seen on TV.
Since season 10, it has been one of the worst shows on TV.
I've never understood what people saw in the show.avatar_geniusIt was clever, funny, usually had a good msg towards the end and set an standard for animated comedy. -Simpsons did it-

I watched Ren and Stimpy when I was a kid, that show was pretty good.

I woudl disagree, 10 to 12 were surely a dip in quality, but from about 13 to 19 you have the true down years. I'd consider family guy post season 4 to be one of the worst things on tv.
I'd say 3-8 were amongst the best things on tv. Homers Enemy and A Fish Called Selma cannot be denied
Up to series 9 I loved it. Possibly my favourite programme to this day. After that though, and certainly after series 12, it was just insultingly bad. The writers lost all respect for their characters and cared only for cheap random plots with tno thought towards character development, as shown by Armin Tamzarian and the death of Maude Flanders.
Lisa becomes incredibly obnoxious to the point where any episode involving her in a significant way is unbearable to watch. Homer no longer has a character other than being mentally handicapped and a catylyst for "wacky scenarios" a la Peter Griffin. They are attempting to ape a programme that initially tried to ape them! Bart is now thouroughly redundant as anything over than a sidekick for Homer, and they just don't know what to do with Marge anymore. The recurring sidecharacters are of increasingly inferior stock (Rich Texan), though perhaps this is not surprising following the death of Phil Hartman. The lack of Troy Mclure and Lionel Hutz left a hole I don't think has ever been adequately repaired.
The satire which used to be spot-on, relatively subtle and ignorably biased (you could always tell the writers were left wing), now has even less subtlety than that present in South Park, with absolutely no thought put into it.
We have passed or at least are very close to, the point where we have had more poor episodes than good. It's a shame that things came to this.

I agree that seasons 10-11 perhaps weren't quite as bad as 12 onwards (sorry, but I just can't stand season 12), but it was still a huge decline in quality, and are still some of the worst things I've ever seen on TV.
Admittedly, there are some good episodes in there (Homer To The Max, Wild Barts Can't Be Broken) but most of them are pretty bad (Sunday Cruddy Sunday, 30 Minutes Over Tokyo) and some of them are among the very worst I've ever seen (E-I-E-I-D'oh, Saddlesore Galactica).

Very well put. I feel the same way. I think that things started going downhill when it became a cartoon, rather than being a show that just happened to be animated.

true, I noticed quite a dip when it came to 10. though I wouldnt classify it as being "most" of the episodes as bad, they were still actually funny(I happen to find Saddlesore Galactica funny if just for its one liners) even though the characterizations were somewhat abruptly changed from the earlier seasons. to me 12 was the last time there were episodes where I laughed out loud throughout ,though only a handful, The Computer Whore Menace Shoes being the standout. I think alot of people dog on the Simpsons post 9 because thats when they took a less story driven approach and more of a "Just make the show funny" approach, which clearly only lasted so long.
I LOVE The Simpsons! It's one of my all time favorite US TV shows. I'm really hoping that they'll do a DubLi special show soon, with Homer winning some really cool auction like the New York Spy Game (http://us.dubli.com/The-New-York-Spygame__3e_2913) and getting into all kinds of trouble. Those are my favourite episodes! The all time best episode is the one where they get a tomato farm out in the sticks, but mix it up with tobacco and ... well, you'll just have to watch it, it's really very hilarious!
The people that say it's terrible make me laugh. The first ten seasons are gold. The humor is consistent throughout every episode, and it's miles ahead of any animated comedy. Season five is the best of them all.
Everything after those ten seasons are pretty bad, and everything now is just awful. Even so, the first ten seasons surpass any animated comedic show.
the Simpsons have been out for so long that I really don't like or dislike the show. it's just a show that I watch when I'm bored and there's not much else on. I try to watch the new episodes, but I don't go out of my way to watch re-runs that I've probably seen countless times. Family Guy is still a must watch for me though.
Seasons 2-10 were tv's finest achievement, however it took a complete nose dive and is still on season 21. Put it out of it's misery already
Season 2 was kinda rough still. I bought it on DVD thinking it was in its stride by that point, but most of the episodes were actually kind of boring.Seasons 2-10 were tv's finest achievement, however it took a complete nose dive and is still on season 21. Put it out of it's misery already
