I feel like I am the only one who does this. It usually doesn't distract me, and in some ways, enhances the story I am reading, or gives me ideas for papers I am writing (currently a senior in High School). I don't always, but I'll do it from time to time. Anyone else?
No, I end up singing the words to the song, and can't concentrate. The only time I do it is when I have to identify vocabulary words for World History or Biology. Then I put some tunes on and just search for the words. I don't really have to pay attention or understand what I am doing. Just copy the word I find word for word, and I'm good!
I don't listen to music while on the forums, either. It really just distracts me.
I have to put on music either with no words, undecipherable words, or words in a foreign language...Otherwise I just sing along and can't focus... I find Godspeed You Black Emperor! is my favorite homework music.
I write alot better while listening to music, only if it's kinda soft though. It's a good thing there's some teachers at our school which aren't overly strict and allow iPods and stuff during independant work.
If i'm studying i usually prefer quiet. If i'm reading i typically don't have music on...i usually have music on when i'm writing (depending what i am writing)
