I tend to tune them out sometimes :P Whenever someone says " I love this song. The lyrics are so deep" I almost always say " i didn't really notice"
The only time I really listen to lyrics is in rap songs.
What about you?

Depends on what type of music it is. Generally speaking I just prefer to listen to the music with most of what I listen to, seeing as with most of what I listen to the emphasis is not on lyrics, but in certain genres you can't appreciate the music without listening to the lyrics. If the music has a lot of instruments and it's fairly complex I can barely follow lyrics at all unless I drop everything else I'm doing.
A lot of my favourite bands have lyrics I don't even know what they're are about. Radiohead is probably the biggest offender, then with the National, you get phrases you can sometimes identify with, then other times you get stuff like "It's terrible love, but I'm walking with spiders". Weird-ass phrases that sound great, but I've stopped trying to decipher the meanings behind the songs and just appreciate the musical quality.
Trying to know the lyrics of all the songs I listen to (at least so-so) though it's often very hard. One listens to the music to feel relaxed while doing sth else - if you want to focus on the lyrics you have to "cut off" the main activity so, regretably, I do it almost only during the weekends. Working days don't offer so much free time and to fully use the amount I am given I have to resign the depth and concentrate on the melody ;) However, I'm trying my best to know what every song is about since when you once get the lyrics, you don't have to get into them again and again - you just know if they're good or not.
If the song has lyrics I don't like, I'll try to find an instrumental verson. But yeah, I almost always listen to the words as well, sometimes I'll sing 'em as well.
I have listened to my favorite song over 600 times and i still do not know the lyrics to it...it's always such a surprise when i look up the lyrics and go "ohhh that's what he said :D"

No. Some songs I haven't the slightest clue what they are talking about like a few japanese songs I listen to. I just like the beat and how the flow of their words compliments the background music. If they are speaking my language and singing at a steady pace, I usually listen to the lyrics....tocool340What this guy said :P
i know the lyrics to almost every song i like the second i hear the song. the lyrics are half the package as far as im concerned. without them most songs wouldnt be interesting enough to keep your attention all the way through. intrumentals are good too, and the music itsself is more interesting than just a normal song, it kinda has to be thoughbecuse it is the song.
If I hear a line that catches my interest I'll look them up or listen to hear the rest of them. Lyrics are not a make or break factor for a song to me, although if they are good they do definitely elevate the overall song.
Yes.
Sometimes it depends, and the music part of it will take early priority, but I eventually like to listen to both parts. If a song has an emotional side (even if the emotion is humour...), it adds a lot to the music.
I don't listen to too much music in foreign languages, just because I like to know the lyrics eventually.
Figuring out the lyrics gives even more reason to listen to some songs. Sometimes I look them up too.
One of my favourite bands is Coheed and Cambria, and it's fun to figure out the significance of each song in relation to "The Amory Wars". :P
It would be like looking at a picture of the beach and saying I went to the beach for vacation.LJS9502_basicI've read that sentence like 5 times times and I still have no idea what it means :/
[QUOTE="LJS9502_basic"]It would be like looking at a picture of the beach and saying I went to the beach for vacation.Mr_AlexanderI've read that sentence like 5 times times and I still have no idea what it means :/ It simply means that looking at a picture of a beach is not the same thing as being at the beach in the same way listening to the song and not the same thing as understanding the song, particularly the lyrics in this case.
