Do you notice that a lot of video games based off of movies aren't that good? I've noticed it. It seems developers are too lazy to make a superb video game based off of a movie.

In contrast, are there any good video games based off of movies that you know of?

It's a well known fact that movies based off video games are generally bad, tho0ugh i didn't think Resident Evil was too terrible. I don't think there are any which base themselves directly off the movies though there are some good ones that just happen to be in the same universe.

Look at the ratings of some of the "Superman" video games on this website. Look up games based off of the "Harry Potter" series, too.

I've known this ever since I was little and I was still giving in to those bad movie games. It's for the sake of their profits and that's why they're bad. They don't spend much time on it unlike the big names in gaming industry.

Wasn't Resident Evil before the films anyway?
The best video game based off a movie is The Warriors, Rockstar managed to pull it off, it's an amazing game.

That's what I mean. "Superman" is a movie franchise. The games based off of it are horrible.

yup..games based on movies -> autosuck

they're usually made in a rush and just aim at people who liked the movie to buy it...not caring too much about quality...look at the games based on the star wars movies...they are bad...other star wars games are usually pretty good though

It's simple, and a formula proven by games released well after the movie came out. Goldeneye, recent Ghostbusters, the first Godfather game... All good games. All games released a long time after the initial movie, concentrating on getting out a GOOD game, rather than putting shovelware on the shelves. The rest? Steaming piles of rancid excrement digested by the money-grubbing execs and and passed by cash-whipped producers in order to cash in on a movie's hype.

Not nescessarily though, there are a few games that were released alongside their respective films that are quite good. LotR Return of the King is an excellent game, for example, and some of the Harry Potter games are decent as well.

Yes, "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" is an excellent game. I own that game. It's very fun!

Its because movie based video games are made as quick cash ins on a tight deadline to release with the movie. Games like Ghostbusters that come out years after the movie can be good because the developers have enough time to make it good.

Obviously there are exceptions to the rules - in some circles, the Riddick games could be considered the same. But that said, at least the LoTR games weren't released on top of the movies. A game like T4, which is basically Gears of War without the, y'know, fun, was rushed out to ride the film's supposed hype. There are always exceptions to a rule, but still, games shift on hype, and producers know that. I'm just glad they never made Epic Movie: The Game.

Its commonplace that a game based on a film is average at best. That's because it wasn't designed as a game, so it was never really going to work very well. The best game based on a film is GoldenEye 007, and several parts of the game differ from the film.

Actually video games based off movie IP have about the same odds of being good as non-movie games. It's just the movie games are more likely to be in the public eye, and only non-movie games from good studios get similar publicity.

Actually, movie games are often rushed out to meet the movie release date. Quantum of Solace, for example, was delayed (the movie) for the game to get polished.

Of course they all suck, theyare only made to cash in on the anticipated popularity of the the film. It's not like they put any serious thought into the design of these games.
