In my area you HAVE to own a car to get around.
There is no bus system here at all, everything is spread far apart, so driving is your only option.

car for long distance
somtimes trams and subways for other places
and my job area is like a 5 minute walk from my apt
Because of where I live (the country) and I only make minimum wage (as a farmhand, sometimes I just work for food) I hate driving around except to go to school. I normally just bike everywhere I need to go.
My car, though, is a 1999 Nissan Altima. My mom works for a Nissan dealership, so I got a discount. Things a hunk of junk anyway. The car itself is fine, but the electronics and upholstery keep falling out. The FM radio stopped working last week and I found out I need to hit the dashboard to get it to work. I still love the thing, and it's the best junker I've owned, but I need to get something a bit better.
Weird hearing about all the different places people live. I live in Western North Carolina and it takes literally 20 minutes to get anywhere. I drive a little red 2001 Nissan Frontier pickup.
[QUOTE="Vari3ty"]rape van or methlab? lots of possibilitesI've had terrible luck with cars, went through 3 of them last year alone. Now I'm driving a huge freakin van because it's the only thing that seemingly won't break on me at the moment.

No reason it cant be both.

I've got a car, but I live in NY so if I'm going downtown or to some crowded area. I'd much rather take the subway. That way I don't have to search for parking for a half our lol :P

Never left the US? Must not have been in that long. Between 2001 and 2008 I've been to South Korea once and Iraq three times. Maybe you will get lucky and take a trip to Afghanistan eventually if you're still in, it'll get you out of the states. I'm expecting to take a vacation there within the next year or two.
Where i live if you dont have a car or get someone else to drive, you probably wont be getting any where quick. Even with a bicycle most towns are about 10 miles away or even farther.Kurushio
This.
Now I don't have a car of my own, but my brother does, so I use his when needed, but I should get one soon.
Car. Although recently I've come to the realization that having free parking everywhere in the city is truly a blessing. When I drove up to Seattle, the parking there amazed me. It seems like you have to pay to park everywhere there. Ghost_702That's why I stay out of downtown areas. You have to pay for everything.

im about a year out of AIT
I can't afford a car and have never had a single driving lesson. I'm still in university at the minute anyway so all my money goes towards me staying alive. I'm moving off campus in a couple months to an awesome house which is only a 15 minute walk away. My dad gives me lifts home every other weekend, so I'm good without a car for now.
Nope. I have my parent's car, and still need them with me when I'm driving (I've had my license for about 2 years, but I don't have insurance).
I drive with my dad to school, and take 2 buses home on weekdays. Other than that, my friends are the ones driving if we're ever going anywhere lol.
I do like those 3 series, I was thinking of buying a wrecked m3, and wielding the front end to a Civic..

I have a car which is a Dodge Calibur 2007. I mostly ride my bike everywhere which is Santa Cruz Blur LT.
I Also have a 2011 BMW RR1000.

I'm jelly.
That car look's sexy, even if I can only see the backside ;)
I don't own one but have had a licence for 3 years. I live in London and plan to get a job there so I think the public transport's a cheaper option. I'm sure by the time I get a car I'll have forgotten how to drive.
After all the Top Gear I've watched, I think there'd be as much of a point in getting a car in London as there is to get one in New York City lol.I don't own one but have had a licence for 3 years.
