I grew up on Airplane! and Naked Gun, so I'm biased.

Leslie Nielsen's were better. And funnier.

Police Squad is better than Naked Gun. The humor works better in a TV format.

I haven't seen that many Steve Martin movies, but I really liked Parenthood by Ron Howard.

Nielsen was, IMO, an underappreciated actor. His serious material was just as good as his comedic side.

Ooh that's a tough one. I'd just about say Martin because he made so many more good films than Nielsen, but I just loved leslie's dead pan humour and the scene with the Queen in Naked gun was hilarious.

Love them both.

I’d go with Leslie Neilson myself, the guy was absolutely hilarious.

Police Squad is also probably the best looking Nielsen thing. I'm watching the new Blu-ray that came out in March. A nice transfer. No grain management that I can spot.

Nielsen! I've only seen a few of Martin's and they didn't make too much of an impression on me.

Nielsen easily just on his delivery alone.

I like both but I would go with Nielsen; how about Greg Gilrado or Patrice O Neal?

Leslie Nielsen by a mile. I straight up don't like Steve Martin's comedies.

Ooof, tough call.

Father of the Bride and The Three Amigos were both great, so good marks for Martin.

But Nielson just has that extra "oomph" that Martin does not. Naked Gun and Airplane were just great.

It's really tough because they both have very different styles of humor.

*I change my mind, I'm voting for Martin; The Jerk and Planes, Trains, and Automobiles were great movies. Nielson might have me rolling on the floor a couple times, but Martin is great pretty consistently and more often imo.

**Oh ya and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels was great. As was Roxanne, arguably one of two "man approved" romantic comedies out there (the other one being So I Married An Axe Murderer) lol.

And of course who could forget his role as the sadistic dentist in Little Shop of Horrors!?

Steve Martin. Mrbojangles25 summed it up.

I saw most of the movies jangle mentioned but I forgot I did. I loved and grew up on The Three Amigos.

Hard to choose one over the other as they are so different to me. Steve Martin is a classic comedic actor, whereas Leslie Nielson was a dramatic actor who found an awesome niche by bringing deadpan serious delivery to screwball and surrealist comedy. I like them both for different reasons, but I would probably say I enjoy more Nielson films than Martin films even though I think the Martin films are technically better and more iconic films.

What does Martin have more icon than Airplane?

Depending on who you ask, lots of movies. Again, their humor style is so different they appeal to different audiences but Martin has some pretty culturally iconic films. Father of the Bride, Parenthood, "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles", Roxanne, Three Amigos. I wouldn't say that they are strictly speaking funnier than Nielson's films but that doesn't mean they weren't very good.

Where you see some overlap is gonna be in Martin's earlier stuff. Man with Two Brains, Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid, and The Jerk are more screwball and felt more like Zucker brothers films.
