So I'm at a cross road right now that makes me wonder about this very thing. I don't want this to be another "What Should I Do" thread, so I figured I'd make it general and simply ask, do you believe "love" is a true thing or simply a fallacy that blinds most. If you do, under what circumstances can it exsist, if not, why?

If you are patient I believe it'll come to you. It seems in todays standards though that if you're not dating when your 16 or any older that people get depressed about it. Then adding to that is everyone asking them 'so why don't you have a girlfriend/boyfriend' but then looking at all the relationships that end in a couple years you've gotta wonder: Does it really matter you're not rushing into a relationship with someone you kinda like

It exists as a feeling but's not something magical. It's human nature in order to trick us into mating. Sure, we can mate without being in love but it gets too expensive.

I believe in good friends, not love. I think the apex of a relationship is friendship, but that's just me.

I do not, I have been in relationships and I always feel the same in them as out of them. Guess I am destined to be alone eh?

Love is just the emotion you feel towards someone/something,you love your family, love your friends, love your dog, love your computer. The love you feel towards another human is just the same as this, except lust is in the equation now, making for what people call 'True Love'. I find this to an unusual thing, because what makes the love you feel towards an object less,or more, special than that you feel towards this person you've got the same feelings for.

Love comes down to two people making a pointless assertaion to commit themselves to the feelings of love, rather than just be enjoyment with eachother. Why? Because they need to own their love,it's the human condition, afterall.

So when it comes down to it, Love = Ownership.

I'm actually glad you brought up lust. I've always felt that love is basically lust going on exponentially. Basically infatuation that simply does not go away, you continuously feel that you must have that other person, be it sexually, emotionally, spiritually, whatever matters to you and the person you're with...

Love happens when you least expect it. Yeah, I believe in love. Real love is more like a kind of glue/need/delight/comfort between people than a fairy tale romance where no one ever farts or has bad breath.

People (earlier in this thread) who equate love to ownership haven't experienced love. If anything, it is the opposite of ownership. Ownership is slavery, and that is not at all what love is. Love is freedom.

no brother i got dessagre with what you said, love is not ownership is nothing like that, love is free here i ll show something taken out of the bible itself:

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Right off the bat? I gota say, every time I see someone say "Brother" online I instantly hear Desomond(Lost) saying it in my mind... :P

Unfortunately I disagree. This passage is clearly not of this world and the times we live in,love isn't patient,it's all about one uping your partner,it's everything that we have to fear in life from distrust to betrayal. Love doesn't perserver,it wilts and dies with time. Those that love too strong fall out of it just that much faster.

Love is about ownership. It's all about control,it's why marriage is there, why someone must plege themselves to another. That is the bestowal of ownership to the other. Why? Because it's nothing like what people would romance about in the days of youth,it's nothing about the time you spend together,it's about the assurance that what's yours will stay yours.

But how do you know you're in love? I'm not questioning that fact that you are, I'm just asking, what do you feel towards her that tells you so?

I'm 15 and I'm glad to admit I don't believe in Love, at all. It's just a stupid emotion that we don't need, when I felt it for the first time back when I was 12, I was sick for 2 days, then I decided to not believe in it.

For some reason I find it hard to believe someone felt the emotion of love at the age of 12, at least any kind of love other than one felt for a family member. It just seems that someone at that age wouldn't be mature to comprehend it, just my opinion...

I came to live with her to finland, because she couldn't stay anymore where we used to live before., that tells you something, i love her some..,and thats just one example.
