Do you really miss your friends?

Hey everyone,

I was just wondering, do you really miss your friends when you are away? I am currently in University with my gf of 9 years, and I have come to realize that I don't really miss friends back home? I was wondering if this is a guy thing because my gf misses her friends sometimes, but not a lot, but I don't at all.. ever.

What do you guys and gals think?

It's hard for me to say since I went to school (and am currently living with) my closest friends. But yes, there are people back home that I do miss.

I did in the beginning, but not anymore though. I care deeply about my best friend and she means the world to me, so excluding her I don't mind much that I don't get to see any other of my high school friends as often as before. That doesn't mean that I don't enjoy hanging out with them, I just don't actively miss them. Things change, as do people.

this is very true.. I do find myself feeling bad for not missing my close friends, but I have always noticed that we do have different lives.

I agree to that.. also their perspectives have changed.

I don't drink so going out to the bar is a damn bore for me, so most of the time I want to go with my buddies snowboarding in the am, which most of them had gone out the night prior and wont go. So I feel like I dont have much in common with them anymore.

No. I never really missed my friends even when I was single. I was too busy and so were they.

Nowadays, it's easy to keep in touch via email. That's also why I don't put much credence to the System Wars mindset that consoles are better because of friends. I have friends/relatives I can game with on the PC even though they're a couple thousand miles away. In fact, they're the only ones I'll game with online.

i only really have missed 1 friend i have been away from for a long time, i guess you miss people who mean a lot to you... but that goes without saying :P

Kinda. I got other friends at university, so I can't say I miss them too terribly, but it would be nice to see them again during Winter vacation (or maybe even Thanksgiving Vacation, though that vacation is short so I'm doubtful.)

I think it depends on the person and how they viewed their friends.
My friend, she misses her highschool friends to death, While someone like me on the other hand, never really got all that close to anyone while in school.

The main students that I attended class with, no. Over the last few weeks I am coming to realize that I will never have to deal with them again. Of course, that also comes with the realization that the girl I had a crush on all my high school years is now gone as well.

EDIT: To put into context, the main students I attended with wernt very nice.

I used to not miss friends when they were away. However, I encounter my friendships a lot differently than I used to do so.

That is, I seek to be a lot more giving in my friendships. I'm much more often talking about the struggles in life and trying to help them with their own struggles.

To give you an idea of how this has changed, when I graduated high school I only even tried to keep contact with one friend (who actually didn't even go to my high school but a neighboring school). With my university friends I make certain I call them every now and then to see how they might be doing. This is not a small talk "How are you?" but a genuine question. I refuse to let any more friendships die.

Thankfully I have recently spent this past year in my hometown and much of this time has been spent slowly trying to reignite old friendships.

Not at all. Im in college now, I hated my high school friends. My best friend is a senior in high school, a year below me, he's my one true friend. I had tons of friends and aquaintances in high school, but I never had any desire to hang out with them. I am the king of excuses.

I really have two good friends, one older, one younger, and thats it. Im friendly with tons of people, but I dont really like them all that much...
