We all know the internet is serious business.
But do you remember when it was brand new to you? Or do you remember a time before the internets? What sort of things did you do when you first started surfing the information highway?

Al Gore is as old as the earth. right after he said "let there be light" he said "wtf, make teh internets"
I remember using Netscape in my school library to get to the new awesome search engine called Web Crawler :?
I remember "computer day" in elementary school where we would go to the computer lab and go on "yahooligans" Everything was pretty much blocked we didn't get to have too much fun.I remember using Netscape in my school library to get to the new awesome search engine called Web Crawler :?

I was 13 when the Internet started hitting the mainstream around 1994, so I remember a lot. In those days we accessed BBSs to pirate games using DOS-based applications and 14.4 baud modems. Everyone thought I was cool when I got a 28.8 modem. I remember being confused about what the Internet was and if it worked in the same way as a BBS, only in Windows.
Back then the biggest games landed at around 20 Mb, filling about a dozen 1.44 Mb floppy disks (eg System Shock) and took a long time to download.
Gaming magazines + word of mouth were the only ways to find out about new games back then, but since technical limitations forced pretty much all games to look 'cartoony' at least in terms of the colour scheme, the result was that unlike today most people were willing to play anything and everything.
prodigy ftw
had a 286 with 640K of ram and a 2400baud modem and monochome graphics. CGA was a dream for me :P .. i remember thinking how cool it was i could telnet to the library.. :|

I started doing email back in 1995 or something like that...I started playing Doom online sometime around then too. I remember the days of the past with these things called encyclopedias that contained information instead of the internet. I remember when kids would win huge volumes of encyclopedias on game shows because it was the closest thing to the internet for awesomeness :PD9-THCOh yes i had to throw mines away not too long ago, Ha ! funny ...
