I say thank you all the time +(though I rarely eat fast food, talking more of Pizza Delivery) and i'm also a good tipper, which guarantees my delivery comes first! :)

I'll say thanks to anyone providing me a service. Its so engrained to me that after receiving something I don't even think about it.

Yeah, at least the first time. If the worker becomes slow or rude, I don't say it anymore.

Simple ****ing courtesy. They agreed to give up x dollars because they wanted food, you agreed to serve them because you wanted y dollars.

In other words, EACH person is getting what they want from the sale. They wanted food, they got food. You want a job selling food, you just sold food as part of your job.

So...BOTH people should say "thank you". The customer should say thank you because you gave him the food that he wanted. Meanwhile, you should say thatnk you because he bought the food, thus helping you to continue to have a job.

I don't see why this has to be a freaking ****-measuring contest over who has the most power. Did the customer/employee both get what they wanted out of the transaction? If so, then common courtesy says that BOTH parties should say "thank you".

Always. I am thanking them for taking my order and serving me my meal. I don't care if it's their job or they get paid for it, I am thanking them because I'm a polite person. I can't see a single reason why saying thank you would be wrong, being polite is always good.

exactly, it's simply a nice, polite thing to do. and sometimes, they say "your welcome!" back so enthusiastically, I could swear it just made their day

Well, if they act like that, then they're just ****bags.

Not much you can do about that other than to STOP having a job dealing with ****bags. So your choices are basically...

1) Quit.

2) Get fired.

3) Act like a BETTER person than the ****bags who you are serving, and contiue to be nice to them while they treat you like ****.

4) Stoop down to their level, and then see how long it takes for #2 to happen.

Bottom line is that you are not in control of other people. They're gonna do what they want to do, period. You cannot control that. The only thing you can control is how you react to them. You can stoop down to their level, you can try to take the high ground and be better than them, or you can simply quit and avoid those interactions entirely. Those are basically your options. Decide which one is best, and then go with that.

Yeap, I also say "Have a nice day" as well. Hopefully they start to say it as well because then they stop halfway through and get really confused.

I always thank out of politeness, but its not a requirement.

I have to agree with your friend that it is their job and they get paid for it (and thus shouldn't be owed a thank you), but I do it anyways because they're just people like me who work hard to give me what I want.

I always say please and thankyou and hold doors open for women, or give up my seat on the bus etc.
