i sure do and i enjoy it! in my opinion, you don't need high quality sound or picture to enjoy a good movie. i have a VCR/DVD combo and i actually use the VCR more than the DVD. mainly cuz i have a ton more VHS tapes than DVDs (in which the tapes are still in very good condition since i actually take care of my stuff) ^_^

If by "pretty much the same thing" they both come on optical discs, then yes. If you are referring to quality of the sound/picture, then no.

This, I've upgraded a lot of my VHS collection to either DVD or Blu-ray. I pretty much watch Blu-ray exclusively now, except for the few DVDs which haven't been upgraded.

Well I, for one, do.

And to answer the OP's question, I don't have a VHS but I'll be getting one someday soon. There's nothing like watching 80's, 90's movies on a VHS. Oh, the nostalgia..... :D

yup. i "preserve" my CD's by recording them onto blank cassettes and then listening to them that way. i have CDs that i owned for years and years and they are practically brand new with hardly any scratches or even dust on them.

Sometimes if I feel like watching some of the older movies in my collection. I can't exactly afford buying DVD (or Blu-Ray) versions of 200+ movies.

I know what they are because I'm not 12 years old, I'm 23. It's no different when I was 12 and I was asking my dad what those big CDS were for (Vinyl records).

Explain then, because to me it seems like you think it's crazy that young children don't know about technology that was outdated before they were born.

Yeah I still watch movies in their old VHS format. I'm old school. Plus there are still movies out there that are still in VHS form such as Town That Dreaded Sundown.

Plus gotta love the old movie trailer previews before and after the movie for VHS. The old VHS tape of Ghostbusters is a classic with old trailers before and after.

Plus the original art for the front covers of the VHS boxes can't be beat whether its old sci fi or horror flicks like Battle Beyond the Stars and Jaws.

Old Jaws VHS tape front cover is better than the Jaws DVDs front covers

yea i know how you feel. my parents still have a lot of the old Disney movies on VHS that have that big black diamond with "THE CLASSICS" written in it and me and my ex use to watch those all the time and when the previews for other disney movies came on before the movie started, my ex was like "OMG i remember that movie!" and started jabbering away about how much she loved them and use to watch them with her friends and family. *sigh* it was great.

I did the same thing. I owned every version on VHS and Laserdisc. Every time George came out with a new version with some additional footage, or a more enhanced version I bought it. The black boxes, the gold boxes, the blue boxes, etc...yeah I know..pretty sad.

The really sad part is now that I own both Trilogies on DVD I almost never watch them. Guess I got burned out watching all the other versions.

Oh yes quite often in fact as I have a decently large collection of taped and original movies that are out of print VHS tapes that have never been available on DVD or movies that have never been released on any format for purchase to the general public. It would be nice some day if a Netflixish Turner Classic Movie type site could be born that allowed you to rent films transferred to their database that weren't commercially available someday, but until then there's just stacks and stacks of recorded tapes for me. Then of course there's all those MST3K tapes I like to throw in from time to time that they can't release on DVD...

I do have a few nostalgia-laden VHS from childhood which I intend to have transferred to DVD one of these days.

I have not and it's not a bad idea but a quick perusal reveals the site to have a pretty weak selection overall and some of those films (such as the horrific Tanya's Island with ape effects by the legendary Rob Bottin) are actually available on DVD. Add to that the fact that a lot of these kinds of tapes can be bought from dealers hooked up to Amazon usually for a nominal price for the silly ones nobody cares about. Still...spotting a couple things I hadn't heard of and I'm busy looking those up for my mental file so no harm no foul.

Besides I got the old VHS tape of The Sea Gypsies for Christmas back in December 25th 2010. Not gonna give that up. Love the old late 70s artwork for the movie's VHS cover
