Do You Support The Israeli Government?

The topic of Israel/Palestine is one of those topics that I can get really mad about. I'm not debating if Israel has to the right to exist, what I'm what debating is do you feel there government, not the people, culture, or anything else but the government alone is just in there attacks on Lebanon, Palestine, and others?

I personally don't support the Israeli government. Because I feel they have violated human rights, and cause most of the violence in the reigion, because there too bullheaded to work with others. Insted of bombing the West Bank and Gaza and Southern Lebanon all the time they should help bring it up out of poverty.

I support Israel's right to exist.

I don't love a lot of what their government has done, but yah know what, when your getting rocket attacks on your cities and suburbs, your supposed to just sit there and take it?

The Palestinians don't help their cause a lot of the times. And don't get me started on Hamas.

There's a fine line between defense and unjustified acts, and if you would look at some of what Israel has done, it would be clear that they cross that line frequently.bman784

Israel has been the victim of a lot of violence from other Middle-eastern countries. They respond to this with inflammatory attacks on other countries that kill many civillians and ensure many more years of conflict. I for one, appreciate this. The UN, an orginization formed by the big three (US, Britain, Russia) after WWII, gave the Jews Palestine, a country that has been almost entirely muslim for many years, in reperation to what the GERMANS, Not Palestinians, did to them in WWII.

They gave them Muslim land, that was once Jewish land hundred of years ago, instead of giving them the German land who did horrible atrocities to them.

I don't see how this is hard to grasp, but let me make it easier for you.

I just want to say, that I think a lot of people here don't really understand the history of that region and how complex it really is, and how long the Jews have actually been there. This is gonna be controversial, but there was NEVER a country called Palestine. This whole "oh it was the Palestinians land" is just total BS. Palestine was the term given to the geographical area by the (I believe, could be wrong) Greeks and then up until World War 1 where in the Balfour Agreement it was settled that the region would be used for Israel (this was pre WW2 btw).You could say the Jews that were living there are Palestinians, but we don't because thats not how they're identified nor how they identify themselves (kinda like how Canadians don't call themselves American).

The Jews NEVER LEFT that area, they were always there, there were kingdoms, there were conquering, there was exile (though they always came back). Its not like Israel and Judah were conquered and they just went away. If you look at who had control of the land, you might feel a lot differently.

As I said, I don't love everything the Israeli government has done, but they have a right to exist. Its not like they're in someone else's land. They've been there for thousand and thousands of years. And as said again, the Palestinians don't help their cause a lot of times with the rocket attacks and suicide bombings.

Except that's not what actually happened.

The creation of Israel was not a direct result of the war. Jews have pretty much always inhabited the area of Palestine. Infact, large-scale migration to Palestine actually started in the 1920's.

that was exactly my point. And its not just that we sell them weapons...we sell them the best weapons. Why do you think the US is such a potent force in this day? Is it because of diplomacy, politics, or even economics? No, its because we have the military might to backup anything we say or do. And the source of that might is the US's advanced technology, training, and weapons. If we share that with another country, it in turn makes them powerful.

So, like I said, the US is supporting Israel.

In other words, no. I don't support the people strapping bombs to themselves and blowing people up, obviously. I also don't support cutting off an entire population from the outside world via a network of fences. That's kind of frigging ironic coming from a Jewish state, I mean, you know, after the whole Nazi thing (which I also think is partially why people cut Israel way more slack than they should). While Israel is no saint, the Palestinians and Hezbollah should also stop their terrorist activities against innocent Israeli civilians, especially children. Hell, if the Arabs could, they would simply throw all of us into the sea. It's because they hate us. Of course we have every right to defend ourselves. In Sderot the Palestinians fire Kassamrockets on innocent civilians almost every day.

Punishing the civilians of a country for the acts of extremists is hardly a justifiable act. I would post examples, but it's hard to find objective sources given how inflammatory of an issue it is. I don't exonerate either side, but I don't think that Israel is blameless in any regard.bman784
