I dont believe in a god but if there was one he wouldnt be anything at all like the bible god. The bible god allows people to go to hell. I dont think anything in existence would be evil enough to do that. Its like the bible god goes out of his way to make sure you live forever so you can burn in hell forever.

Nope. The bible has such a poor story line in my opinion. Almost nothing in it makes sense.

No, any god who'd call me and my kind abominations is no god of mine. A real god would encourage freedom and peace in his creations. Not condemn his own creations to an eternity hell and let the world become the rot Peter Booth foresaw.

like turn water to wine  no i don't think so i kinda agree with TC, God wouldn't be so merciless to send people to hell. I mean he could send people to hell, but not one that is described like flames and stuff.

So I'm guessing this topic is made exclusively for Atheists to answer, right? Because any Christian who comes into this thread will probably be insulted since your topic pretty much says their beliefs are a big fairy tale?

I can see this either blowing up to ten pages of replies (especially with school out in some areas already) or it getting locked in a page or two after the insults start flying and the original question is derailed.

The bible serves mans interest not gods.

The bible was changed in England because a guy wanted more wives.

A real God would be pretty upset by that I'd imagine.

Guess you're right about me deviating.

These threads usually go like this:

1. Atheist TC asks question that either strongly implies or outright says religious beliefs are BS.

2. Other Atheist posters join in and agree with the first post, cracking jokes at the expense of believers.

3. Theist posters come in insulted.

4. Massive exchange of insults that push the line (and sometimes crosses) the bounderies of the TOU starts.

5. Mod locks thread and a new one is opened hours or days later repeating the process.

Just to throw my two cents in........ I'll just say that I don't think anyone in the world is qualified to say what God is "like." Not a priest, not a rabbi, nobody. All 'we' can do is try our best to understand Him as much as possible, but as humans/people (in life anyway) we will never "know."

Yeah, I know. I was just using the common vernacular. From what I understand/believe/have been taught, God really isn't a 'he' or 'she' as we know it.

Same here. I've read the entire bible and study it extensively. I just find way too many flaws with it. I'm a Theist though. I beilieve there's something bigger out there. I just don't think we've ever seen "it". So I also believe most religions are "right". :)

No... but that is if you only interpret the Bible literally. And also presume that a God can be "real" at all (existentially).

The bible says god looks just like us. So I assume he's tan. Medium length hair. light brown eyes. Averages, you know?

But non religiously, I would assume god is just a giant energy cloud that is the source of energy in the universe.

A lot of people are saying "why would he damn us to hell"? Well, you don't think that murderers and nazi's ect, deserve eternal bliss do you? I mean come on.

Actually God is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. And he is different than how he's protrayed in the bible. He actually lets a lot of people into heaven that you wouldn't expect. Like people who don't go to church and people who are not perfect you know. The vast majority of people he lets in. It's only those who have done horrible unspeakable things during thier lives go to hell. Some of them get monthly visits to realitives in heaven. It depends on the degree of what they have done.

Nearly everyone on here is athiest, but I bet in the end god will forgive you and let you into heaven when you die. That's just how nice he is.

I'm puzzled as to where so many people get the idea that "the Bible God" lets or sends people to burn in hell. The Catholic Church has taken the original translations so far out of context over the centuries that the true contents of the Bible are known to relatively few people. Now most major Christian denominations have absorbed much of the made-up dogma of the Catholic Church as well, tainting many people's view of the Bible. The Bible is a collection of recorded texts written by people who witnessed or participated in extraordinary events. The book has been twisted and misused to give massive amounts of control to the major "Christian" religions. Things like the modern interpretation of "the rapture," the concept of a literal, eternal, burning hell, and the dozens of so-called "saints" are creations of the early Catholic Church, nothing more.

I bet he'd make Islam and Judaism as great of fairytales as he does Christianity because neither of them makes sense, but at least the bible we can all understand as an example as it's spread all over songs, we've read some at school and movies of course. I think God would look like your average stoner and also act like one.

Odin is pretty good to his followers. Sure, you have to fight to get into Valhalla. But who wants a bunch of wimpy pansies in Valhalla? Not me. You need to nut up or shut up to make it to the big time.

The thread's opening question seems like an appeal to emotion. It insinuates the the God of the Bible doesn't exist, and you seem to be concluding this based on the fact that you have a problem with people being sent to Hell. What in the world does this have to do with whether or not He exists? I often see this emotional objection presented by an atheist, and to that objection I say "Ok, so you disagree with the idea that some people should sent to Hell...so what?". It's as if that atheist is saying that this teaching is objectively wrong, but I often see atheists saying that there is no objective morality.

Aside from this inconsistency, I do believe that the real God is the same one that was worshipped by guys like Abraham, Noah, Moses, etc. [p.b.u.t]. This does not mean that I agree with every one of the actions that's attributed to Him in the Bible, I am merely saying that I do believe in the God of Abraham [p.b.u.h]. :)

"'I don't [believe in God],' she sobbed, bursting violently into tears. 'But the God I don't believe in is a good God, a just God, a merciful God. He's not the mean and stupid God you make him out to be.'" - Catch-22

He's entitled to that belief and there's certainly no reason for anyone to get offended by it. Athiests should not be forced to think that the beliefs of theists are not a fairly tale if they think that those beliefs are in fact a fairy tale.

So I'm guessing this topic is made exclusively for Atheists to answer, right? Because any Christian who comes into this thread will probably be insulted since your topic pretty much says their beliefs are a big fairy tale?

ad1x2

There are 21 major religions (and no doubt hundreds of minor ones) in the world at the moment.

Christians would say that 20 of those are big fairy tales, because according to the bible there is only one god.

So its ok for christians to say this but not for athiests? Why is that?

Not at all. The Bible is a narcissistic manmade fantasy. I'm sure the real god, whatever it is, doesn't consider us special.
