Do You Think Akon Is a Hypocrite?

I mean, when he first started out he sang meaningful songs about the ghetto, poverty and loliness. I was really into his music back then. But once the first miliions came rolling in he immediately sold out and shifted to Gangsta Hip-Hop topics (Bling, Sex... etc). Seriously, WTF ?

This is why I don't listen to rap

not so much a hypocrite, as just moving on to a more revelant topic. after awhile it would start getting old, and people would call him a hypocrite if he continued to sing about poverty when hes rolling in millions. i enjoy his music, but lyrically not so much anymore. i know rapping about money and hoes is dumb, but i still enjoy the music

I don't think hypocrite is the right word, more like sell out, since he'd sing any thing for a big enough paycheck. I'd do the same thing if I had the chance though.

I mean hypocrite in the fact that it seems like he never actually mentioned those topics at the start of his career to begin with. Artists usually take time to sell-out (if they do) and IMHO he has set a record as the fastest to ever do so.
