i know they just won the format war but, do you think that cd that can hold 1 terabyte of data is going to take over the formats? i think so thats soo much more then bluray. comments?
Well it is much more space than blu-ray but think about how much Blu Ray was for 50GB. The price goes down but I never see the 1TB discs as being a viable storage medium for gaming. By then I think the companies will have moved onto DD or more compact storage medium a la flash drives or something similar.
Not to mention a 1TB HDD will probably be cheaper than a 1TB disc by then as well opening up the door for DD on consoles.
I don't think Blu Ray will fail any time soon. I mean there could have been better discs than standard DVDs for awhile, but you can't just make a new disc because then everyone needs new players and people don't like that.

The cheapest 1TB hard drive I can find is £77.25 ($152.89), and probably not much cheaper in the US.
ik its expensive now but if they dumb down the price can u imagine what they can do with that much data o man can u imagine the mp3 cds u can have haha

It's more than just price of the disc. What about the cost of the player? What if any anti-piracy features does it have? How fast is the drive speed? Are we in a Blu Ray situation where the read speed is slow but consistent or is it like DVD where the speed differes depending on which part of the disc is being read?
All these things and more need to be considered when trying to put a new format into your machine. Sony didn't just wake up and say "Hey lets invent a new format for the hell of it and throw it in our console."
No. I really don't thin so. Those Terebyte discs are way off from production. And digital downloads...well, I think a lot of people still want an actual physical medium.

Large capacity diks will be history soon, this is proberbly the last generation, downloads will take over and for the stuff that dosn't blueray should surfice and if not high capacity flash cards. The flash cards could be the same physical size of a standard CD but they'ld hold much more, be imposible to scratch and manufactures could produce different amounts of memory for cards that fit the same slot, so you wouldn't have to pay for 1tb for an lbum ect.
EDIT: You've also got to think, how long would it take to program 1tb of data, all you could do it with is super high ress pictures of reallife skin, leaves, tarmac ect to be able to fill the disk in a resnoble time
Hardly anyone uses discs for data storage anymore. I mean theres 60Gb memory sticks out now. If people did use them for storage often the I still dont think they would need 1Tb of memory anyway. Blu Ray will stay around for a long time for films. Mainly because of sony and the PS3. Thats supposed to last ten years and Sony will want Blu Ray to stay around for the same ammount of time.
it won't for a while but there are many new formats that hold more data than bluray (you might be talking about HVD). but i do think blu ray will never beat dvd. dvd will be around for years then digital downloads will take over as internet speeds get faster.
To bad the laser to read that 1TB CD would be very expensive, that and no TVs proabley for the next long while is going to have a resolution higher then 1080p so theres no point in makeing higher resolution recordings.
I hate blu-ray. I still dont believe it deserved to win. The Inferior format wins yet again with superior marketing and behind-the-curtain deals and bribing! HD-DVD had better read times, performed better overall than the blu-ray, i was investing in that...what a wasted investment...I'm still ****ed...

I highly doubt that. The need for a physical copy will never go away. Physical Copy's are also far more secure, and have more longevity (Company goes bankrupt or the download services stop hosting your game/movie and you're screwed).
