If your face is fine already but you have to make it extra smooth and shiny then it's still not gay it's just a little bit unecessary... Manly men are allowed to have some imperfections on their faces.
Preservation of self image isn't gay most people try to avoid spots and the like. Although for some of the people I used to go to school with it was debatable.
Unless you want to go around being called crater face or something, or being unattractive to the ladies, there's nothing wrong with a guy taking care of his face.
I don't even think you could link personal hygeine to metrosexuality, much less homosexuality. It's just a normal thing. I use acne pads because I don't want to make people look at all of the bumps on my face.
