Don't think I've ever experienced that. Pedestrians and bicyclists are practically non-existent where I live.

I have always seen people that ride bikes ride them on the side of the road and not in an actually lane.

Just as long as they have turn signals, brake lights and head lights, along with a speedometer, they should be fine by me.

I've been in a few close calls with bikers on roads. I can't imagine there being a near-fatal-miss with a biker on the sidewalk. I don't understand why bikes aren't allowed on the sidewalk. That's where they belong (except in places like downtown and dense areas). It seems much safer to stick bikes on the sidewalks except on really busy sidewalks like those downtown.

Your wordplay isn't going to change my mind. Bicyclists cannot be killed and maimed on the sidewalk, nor can they kill and maim pedestrians (in a worst-case scenario they can break someone's arm).

On the road, the're a goner if they get hit by a car. They can't keep the speed and they don't have any protection. Now dedicated bike lanes... that's a different story. I like that idea, and support the idea. But until those bike lanes become more common, bikes should stay where they can't cause death.

Depends if they are douche's about riding on the road. If they move out of the way when a car is approaching, then they are fine by me. But when you get up behind someone that refuses to move over and let you pass, to where you have to wait to pass them going 10mph... ridiculous.

Bicycles aren't allowed on most highways :? There are signs that say "Motor Vehicles Only" watch out for those. To be honest I think its a pain in the ass swirving around bikes on the roads I have to travel to get to work daily. The roads are narrow and while I do have respect for them as I would the driver of a car, there has to be some other way. In order for me not to hit some of these cyclists I've had to almost hit a vehicle in the opposite lane. There should be restricted times especially on country roads.

Bicyclists can actually be ticketed by the police for riding on the sidewalk. Cyclists have every right to the road considering that is where they are supposed to be riding. If there is no bike lane on the road, cyclists have the right to use the road. I'm not sure if cyclists can ride on highways, most interstates are illegal to be on unless you have a motorized vehicle greater than 125cc.

NOO, I HATE when people do that. It is the most annoying thing, I have to avoid people on bicycles because they are in the middle of the street when there is a sidewalk 10 feet away! I don't get it, what's so bad about the sidewalk?!

If they are going to be forced to ride on the street, then the city should make bicycle lanes, otherwise let them ride on the sidewalk as it is far too dangerous for the cyclists AND the drivers.

I think he's complaining about the law that forces them into the current situation, not the individual bicyclist's decision to ride on the road.

I have lived in cities where there are always people riding with traffic, and nobody gets hurt. It's only dangerous when people driving are hasty impatient morons. Safety should hold priority over a few minute difference in time of arrival.

Heck no bikers usually just get in the way. No offense to the people who ride bikes for transportation, but JEESE I have seen some people riding bikes in bad places, and they mostly hold up traffic and get hit.

if your at a busy place like downtown stay on the side of the road because of pedestrians. Anyplace else it's safe to stay on the road because of speeding cars.

If there aren't bicycle lanes then yes, I think bicycles should be allowed to ride in car lanes. I do, however, think that as a cyclist you should be considerate and shouldn't obstruct the flow of traffic by taking up the entire lane if you cannot keep the pace with traffic. Ride along the edge of the road.

As for riding on the sidewalk it is actually very dangerous. I have a road bike and ride at sustained speeds between 15-35 mph (depending upon the speed limit and the incline/conditions of the road), if I were to ride on the sidewalk and strike pedestrian you can bet that there will be serious injuries to either one or both of us, especially if the pedestrian hit were a child.

In my opinion, bicyclists should remain on the sidewalk, for their safety. There are plenty of people who are certainly capable of riding in lanes, but that doesn't mean the drivers around them are capable of driving. It's just too dangerous in my opinion. I also HATE seeing kids riding their bikes in the street when the sidewalk is RIGHT THERE!

I don't have a problem with cyclists unless they are riding their bike right ON the lane designated for cyclists instead of INSIDE the lane. That causes the motorists to alter their course and it could mean trouble, especially during the busy hours.

As long as they are moving with traffic and not slowing it down I do not see a problem with it. Where I live we have plenty of bicycle lanes so it's not that big of a problem.

i pisses me off so much when bicycle riders are on the streets. it freaks me out a little too, i was deliverin parts for my company, and i happen to pull up and this guy on his bike had just gotten run over by a dump truck.... it was pretty gruesome. i thought i was a hoax at first cause the mans body looked fake. almost like a dummy. but yeah i got down, and went up to it to move the dummy (what i thought he was) and his bike outta the way. cuase it was in the intersection. and lone behold it was real.... my heart fell to my stomach.... it was terrible. so now when i see dudes on bikes i'm like watchin their every move....

Just letting people know, there are NOT sidewalks everywhere. where i live it is either the road or a ditch. The pedestrians have to walk on the road too.

Bikes I believe are allowed on the streets, yet you don't see them on highways too often. Not sure if they are allowed on the highways, but they are on regular streets.

Yes I think it's right. I don't think travel should be limited to car owners. There are some roads where you can't ride such as interstates.
