Do you think it's right women and children get to leave first in a disaster??

In that hudson plane crash women and children got to leave first, I think that is unfair. Everyone thinks all men are strong and can protect everyone, I'm more skinny then most people but do I still have to help people because I'm a man??

I don't think it's right how women and children get to leave first, why would I stay in a disaster and risk my own life?? I don't find anything wrong with being selfish. We are born into this world to protect our selves, we take care of our selves, so why should we risk our lives to help other people who wouldn't help us??

If I am in a disaster I will leave first because I can't help people, thats not my fault but it's not likely I would be able to lift anyone to safety.

What about if I am in a car accident with a women?? Will the women be sent to the hospital before I am?? If thats so then whats the point of ever taking care of my self if people think women are more important?

So do you think people should stop saying "women and children first"?

Children should go first, out of men and women it should be survival of the fittest! fight to the death etc.

The mentality came from the idea that women and children are weaker and must be protected before a man is protected.

It's a dumb sexist stereotype.

It's sexist because it tells women they are weak.

And it's sexist because it makes men have to suffer a hardship just for being a man.

I think the men and women should try and help get the kids to safety, and do whatever is in their power to do so.
Unfortunately it rarely happens that way, and most people just panic in times of crisis.
But as for saying women and children first, it should simply be "children first" since "Chivalry is dead".

A plane crashing into the water isn't going to kill 6 billion people, so theres no reason for a women to go first. They aren't weak either.

In any case, men have 30% more muscle mass than women, so yes we are indeed stronger. It is possible for a woman to beat up a man or something, but we have more potential to gain stronger muscles, or something to that effect.

Regardless of how you look at it, it's still cowardly to want to sacrifice others for yourself. It begs the question, why anyone is even living in this world if they don't have anything they care about? I'd give my life to ensure that my family is safe in a disaster. There is selfishness in wishing my family's safety before others, but I guess I'm selfish as well, and also have some points wrong.

There human beings. Some may go procreate. Its called keeping the population alive, and while that sounds ridiculous since the population is so large if you where a real man you would have the courage to allow the ladies and the children go first. Grow up buddy.

Wikipedia doesnt have much to say on the matter either and its even open for edit which makes it unreliable. It could be interpretted that women are usually responsibile to take care of children they have and ever since boats have been invented it can be sayed that women usually were stuck with children and no father because of the father leaving, dieing in any of the major wars since then, being drafted or dieing of disease or age since women have much higher mortality rates. Especially these days since marriage is so low its probable that the women have children directly responsible for back home rather then men so it gives them priority. Then on the other hand, in any scenario as a ship is at its brink or an aircraft, the men have the better chance of saving themselves at the end because they most likely have more strength and guts just from how they were grown up in contrast to women.

You know political correctness is going too far when this kind of mannerism is deemed 'sexist'.

I doubt women can complain; and I find that being a man you should act as the protector, as it has always been and sacrifice yourself if necessary for your family. I have no issue with this.

I think some of it dates back to the days when the women looked after the children and the men had nothing to do with it...so if a family were on board a ship (ie Titanic) and it was sinking, they would get the women and the children off because, as previously mentioned, children are the future and they need their mothers to look after them. Also, back then, women were viewed as the weaker gender. And I believe that notion of women and children first has stayed.

Oh, and I'm fairly certain the notion was around before Titanic, I just used that as a well known example.

Children should go first, but if I remember correctly, women were fighting for a thing called EQUAL rights not too long ago, not we get out first rights.

If women are truely my equal (which I believe) then they should be treated the same as me no exceptions.

Its the same with the man being the "gentlemen" and having to be chilvirous for the sake of being a "man". If your my equal then you can open your own door, pay for your own meal, and other **** like that.

I shouldn't have to do it because I'm a "man" and your a woman. Unless your admitting that I am somehow superior to you and you cannot do it for yourself. Which if that is the case then please tell me and I'll gladly open the door for you as your superior :)
