Wolfmother are basically a copy of every good rock band since the 60s. Nothing special there,
but that doesn't mean they're bad!

No it's not get your facts straight.
Metal is WAY too big to be called a subgenre of rock. Fact is there are a BILLION subgenres of metal. Thats how diverse it is....

Lead Carbonate, Metal has branched off far enough from rock to become its own genre. Same with punk.
ia agree with you on metal, but punk........not so much. Punk hasnt really evolved much.

I love your exaggeration of numbers, it's adorable. It's still rock. Even metal acts agree with that.

No they don't.....
Seriously WTF are you smoking? Metal is NOT a subgenre of rock. Thats suggesting that Muse and Nightrage are in the same general music category which is just stupid......
There are a few good recent bands, but in general classic rock owns.killalln00bsThis would be my opinion as well.

So?Why can we put Vivaldi and... John Cage in the same category but not Muse and Nightrage?
Maybe you're the one smoking something. I heard it causes delusions.

So does rock. Maybe I havent heard enough punk, but I have heard a lot and it doesnt seem tons of uniqueness there that would put it in its own genre.

No clue who those bands are.....
And no I am not the one smoking something. Any idiot knows that metal is its own genre.....
Does VR count as new rock? :P And now that Atreyu has got their **** together and stopped taking themselves so seriously they're a great new rock band. (See: Blow) I like some classic rock, but not much.OfficialJab
I don't think so, seeing as how all of the members got their start in the late 80s.

Metal has become far to vast and broad of a genre to be considered a sub-genre of Rock. For one thing, Metal has numerous sub-genres of its own, and has far too many bands to be considered Rock in the least bit. The mechanics of Metal and the standards of it are drastically different in comparison to Rock, but it is of course undeniable that Metal was essentially influenced by Rock, but as stated before, it is not Rock.
Based on this sort of inference that you're making, you may as well say that Rock is the same as Blues, because it was inherently influenced by Blues in the same manner, but due to the fact that the dynamics of Rock and Blues are different, it is not technically the same thing. The same applies to Metal in this case, as it has branched off of Rock and formed its own genre.
Ask anyone who listens to Metal as their main genre, and they'll tell you, it's not Rock, it never was Rock, and it never will be Rock. I've been listening to Metal since the age of six, I'm training to be a vocalist, I'm good friends with musicians who play Metal, I've met band members of Metal bands, and I've been to many Metal concerts. Once you experience it for yourself, I guarantee, you'll never be so audacious as to call it Rock ever again. It isn't even close to it anymore. It's not the kind of genre that's easy to get into like Rock, and that's one of the biggest differences that sets it apart.
That said, I'd recommend that you do some research on the subject before you blatantly pull that kind of crap out of your ass, because anyone who knows what they're talking about isn't going to let such a bull**** assumption go past them. I'm no different here.

they are ok, use way too much distortion in their music.

You wrote a lot, but you didn't actually say anything. Metal is rock.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heavy_metal_musicWith Steppenwolf, Zeppelin, Iron Butterfly and even the Beatles considered as producing some of the earliest metal recordings, I don't think you can claim it's NOT rock.
I think so, there are a lot of good rock bands out there when you listen to music that isn't on the radio. I think classic rock is considered so great because all we hear now is the good stuff, all the bad bands have been filtered out by now and no one listens to them anymore. In 20-30 years people will still listen to the Radioheads, Death Cabs and Sigur Ros' (my two favorites right now, so I'll list them) and forget about the Fall Out Boys of this generation....I think:)dgbiker1I disagree on this. Not everybody listens to the good stuff. How do you think bands like Godsmack, Three Days Grace, Breaking Benjamin, and Saliva are still around? (They all sound exactly the same!)
There's good music and bad music in every period. Sometimes more than the other. It sort of depends on taste. Personally I love 70's and 90's music. Most of the 80's music I hear is too cliche and cheesy. The only 80's band I like is Metallica. Some modern day stuff is really good though. I love the White Stripes, and System of a Down was great before they broke up.Bulldog19892
If you think 80's music is cheesy...then you were listening to the wrong music.
