I had a talk with an old friend. She and her boyfriend are celebrating their 2 year anniversary Monday. We talked about how she's SOOO madly in love in 2 years and that when they build their own dream house, get good jobs, they plan on getting married. She's 20 and her boyfriend is 21 going on 22.

And as happy (yet protective of her) as I am. Already I'm seeing SOME, not ALL of my friends calling off relationships, blowing off marriages, etc.

Some I actually see still strong and in love, others have a boy/girlfriend that are just sooo...undeserving, some just matured and grew out of the relationship.

So what about you folks, do you believe relationships last? Or will they be gone eventually due to how we as people always change and mature?

Here's another thing. What defines a TRUE love? Usually you see people's myspace with "cute" things like forever and ever and stuff and they feel as if they're TRULY in love...or at one point they were.

There's no straight answer because every relationship is different. But if a relationship has the important traits--trust, communication, etc etc etc (we've probably heard this a trillion times)--then yes, they can last. Also, in my opinion, it takes a little bit of luck. I've been with my girlfriend for almost 3 years, and I don't see our relationship ever ending.

there's no such thing defined as "true love", it is completely subjective. Which means that it is called, in my opinion "Completely based on how much they love each other"

Depends on the person. It takes quite a bit of work and could be difficult at times, but it can work if both parties are into it and have the same idea

Depends on the people involved. They all end upon the death of one partner regardless.

Obviously. My mom and dad are still together, so are most other relatives I know, or parents of friends, etc.

Same thing for probably many other people.

Can I ask some with some personal experience?

Has anyone felt they found their true love AT ONE POINT?

Where you thought they were the one, you pretty much LIVED for them, lived together, made future plans, even got married.

Then...the love stopped. It wasn't there anymore.

What was that like?

Because there were some people like I said who seem like they were destined to be forever, but then they called off everything. Their relationship, marriage, future together, etc.

But it wasn't out of anger or anything. Some remained on good terms, but the spark wasn't there.

If you meet two people in love and have been together a long time there is a good chance that one or both is a Leo.

Of course, though love isn't necessarily what people expect it to look or feel like, so when they experience it they don't even know.

What makes you think they're staying together because they love each other? For all you know they could only be staying togetherbecause they have to for fiancial reasons, for the kids, etc. (Not directed towards you per se, just a general question.) Edit: I believe that relationships rarely last for several reasons.

You can't generalize as there are so many various factors with every relationship. But as for most of the people I know personally, they don't.

Well it has been two years for me and I just can't see myself being with anyone else. So yes I do think relationships last but obviously things can change down the road so no one truly knows how long they will stay with someone no matter how much they love each other.

True love is a good foundation, but in and of itself is not enough to sustain a relationship. TC's question is weird. Relationships that last will last. My fella and I are coming up on 7 years of co-habitation next month

If things does not work and she breaks your heart, it is always fun to get revenge on her. She needs to realize that you are too important to just toss to the side.

My grandparents were married for over 40 years until my grandma died. So I believe relationships can last just from witnessing the love they had for each other.

They can last if both are willing to work on the relationship together. My wife and I have been married over 10 years and our love is still going strong. It does take two people though to work on it. If only one is willing to put in the effort and the other is not, chances of that relationship working is very small in my opinion.

some do, others don't..

-Exhibit A: my grandparents were married for over 50 years before my grandpa died

-Exhibit B: A friend dated his gf for over 7 years before they got married. they got a divorce less than a year later.

-Exhibit C: A Friend got dumped a full 2 hours after they started dating

it depends on the people

Yes, I see couples that celebrate the 50th or 40th wedding anniversarys all the time. My parents are going on 22 years. I definitely think relationships definitely last
