For the most part it seems like during the 1950's society wasn't very tolerant of people who had a mental illness, from just speaking to my grandparents in terms of how society has grown as a whole. My grandfather once said that back during the 1950's and even into the 1960's if someone thought a person was "crazy" their solution would be for them to be locked away in a mental hospital, or carted off to an insane asylum.
Do you think that society has grown to be more accepting and tolerant of people with a mental illness? or do we still have a ways to go?
I Believe we have, it seems like there is alot more alternatives and programs that are there for the people who really need them and they can get the help they need, but I also think we've still got a ways to go as well. So I guess it could go both ways
Here is even an old video i found, of police training on how to deal with the "Mentally disturbed"
