I think so. It would be such a shame that if there were none.

Dispite the one in however many trillion a chance our planet is, it's impossible to say that there is no other life. With how many stars there are out there the chance of another planet like ours is pretty high, all things considered. I'm willing to bet there's another species out there pondering the same thing we are right now, on their own gamestop forum.

There would have to be! Considering our universe is something like 10^22. Which is equalivant to 1000000000000000000000000 KM^3. It wouldn't really matter though, if there was. But I think there is. Well I like to think so anyway.

This, pretty much. ^ :P

The universe is so insanely large we can't even start to wrap our heads around it's vastness, you can't seriously tell me we are the only intelligent life forms (let alone the only life forms) floating in it.

I will say this much. There is a statistical certainty that the same conditions that acted as a catalyst and supported life on Earth has happened countless times. Maybe only .000000000001% of those situations actually allowed life to exist. That's probably still a million instances ...

Life (other than Earth) has existed, does exist or will exist. Will we ever find it? That's a lot less certain.

I have trouble comprehending the size of space. I imagine everything to fit in some sort of galactic cardboard box. So no, I'm not sure that I do realisticly, though the idea is appealing.

I'm sure somewhere along the way there's a planet with people looking up at the stars asking themselves this very question.

An infinite number of monkies on an infinite number of typewriters will inevitably create a work of Shakespeare. The universe is infinite which means of course there would be other life out there

The universe is not infinite, it had a start so by definition its finite. As for the question of life out there i find it insulting that someone would suggest theres not, the sheer vastness of our own galaxy contains billions and billions of stars which have planets orbiting them and with the abundance and variety of life on planet earth its ridiculous to think we're the only living things in it.

where exactly did you learn it had a start? religion is not fact you know. and if your referring to the big bang, thats a not a creation event. it merely explains the expanding of the universe. It does not state that there was nothing before the big bang. Science so far is leaning towards the universe being infinite. Neither has been proven though.

There are around 200 billion stars in our galaxy. If you take .1% of the stars in the galaxy that have planets with plants and animal life as we know it, that would be 200 million stars.

this is false. monkies do not type on typewriters at random. those would not create a work of Shakespeare. however i do believe that the conditions for live as well know it can take place on other worlds. There is of course the possibility of live that we wouldn't think possible.

What statistics are those?

No answers to this post? It's because statistics would require an observable environment and the universe is anything but. We have to take what we know to be true until we have any proof that would be different. Yes, there is a very good possibility that there is life outside of our solar system, but using what we know right now, we are the only one. There is no statistical evidence that there is life outside of our own little ring of planets. There isn't an accurate quantitative number that could identify the chance of creating life on a barren planet, because we don't even know for sure what started life on our own planet yet.
