So I applied for a job at Mc Freaking Donalds and at one point the woman said something like "Well you have had a long period with out working." and i said how I was "focusing on college" but I didn't get the job, so I'm thinking of this plan:

Next application (to a different place obviously) for my workless period say I worked at this K Mart or maybe Blockbuster that just went out of business and look up articles to find the exact date it closed and stuff. I mean almost all Blockbusters are dead, how is some fast food place going to track down if I really worked there or not??

It could work. They will think that its too much of a hassle to track a closed business down. But on a side note, do people have to lie in their resumes to work for fast food restaurants lol.

Why not just tell them you were "self-employed" as a beachfront hotdog vendor, or something along those lines?

Or say your Mom and Dad owned a food vending business (hotdogs, popcorn, slushies, ..., whatever) and you worked for them. Your Mom and Dad will lie for you, won't they?

:P

I did not realize that being "inactive" or "unemployed" for a while affects your application for a fast food position, unless it's a managerial one! Well, that's scary.

Really you can stick a few REAL monkeys back there and you would never know the difference... HEY i wouldn't be shocked if they did a better job... Maybe they could melt the cheese for once

P.s i wouldn't lie about anything they can find out is untrue because that = termination on spot. I have seen a it done. My boss wanted hire his friend So everything good she got the job. the second day she worked HR came got her...

Good point, I changed it to job application now since that's what I meant originally but had resume's on the mind.

Don't ****ing lie on a resume. Especially to McDonalds. They will hire anybody, you don't need to lie. If somebody finds out later, which they might (a lot of business owners are friends) you'll be screwed if somebody calls your McDonalds boss for a reference. Instead, tell them what activities that involve job skills you were taking part in at college. Did you help manage any teams, or tutor anybody? How about running concessions or doing a fundraising booth? Mention some volunteer work that you were doing. And just fyi since I think you might need this tip, try and disassociate yourself (your real name, so nobody can track you back to it) from usernames like "RDeezy4twenty", and if something similar is your email, get a new one like John_Smith1983@hotmail.com, because no offense, but I would immediately throw somebody's resume out if I googled their name and found a bunch of stuff relating to pot, rap, etc. My immediate thought would be "Yeah, focusing on college, right. Was he majoring in partying and wasting time?". I don't know how many times I have to tell people this, but having an online presence that has a lot of drug/alcohol/'rap culture' or otherwise somewhat controversial references does not look good. It makes you look like an idiot, and even moreso if they go hunting and find posts like this.

I know it's risky, but I figure a minimum wage job is just going to call the number to a closed store which will be disconnected and probably give up then. Even if they try to track down another store from that business they probably can't find every single employee and if I choose a dead business like Game Crazy or Hollywood video, I'm in the clear. I'll have to google to find exact close dates though.

Hey maybe they found someone else who was cheaper and had more work experience. They'll go for them first you know. You just need a bit of luck with that stuff.

My first ever job was at Wendy's, just be honest on your application, be willing to work as many hours as you possibly can. When I went in for the interview they knew I was in school, but I was willing to work after and on weekends as many hours as they could give. And during the summer I got even more hours. If you aren't in school at all now just be willing to work whatever. If you have to have one night off specifically they should honor that if you're willing to work all the other days.

When I was out of school I basically put open to close on my applications except on two days, I think they really liked that I was so flexible. Always be honest with whoever you apply to, they value honesty in an employee, if they find that you lied about something they are going to have difficulty trusting you, trusting that you won't lie about something while on the job.

Those are just my two cents worth, getting a job in fast food should be easy, and working at a fast food place can be kind of fun...not something I'd do for the rest of my life, but I did enjoy my time at Wendy's. Moved on to retail later on and that was fun as well. But you have to be a people person, that really helps when you have to deal with customers and sometimes other co workers.

There's nothing wrong with the answer you gave. Many people decide to focus on college. One thing I would never do is lie on an application or in an interview. If they catch you, out the door you go. If you were focusing on college, let them know that. Just my opinion.

If your going to lie do it right. Get a friend who has some form of managerial role and use them as a fake reference. Failing that find someone who can sound official on the phone and use their cell. I've never needed to lie to get a job, but I have been the friend on the other end of the line for more than a few people, and it works, just make sure they give you a good wrap without sounding fake.

Also, there shouldn't be a problem creatively rounding when your last job ended. Finished it in Januaray, say April. Don't lie by years, but a few months here or there won't cause a stir.

you know normally I would tell you not to lie during a job interview, but honestly it's fast food. They probably aren't going to care too much. Plus if you are going to lie about working at a place they can't really call or would find it too much hassle to do so I'd say that that's a fairly decent strategy. I still think it's best not to lie, but older people who are out of work are taking these jobs that used to be mostly reserved for a younger crowd so it might be a little too rough out there not to lie and still expect a job.

if this were a couple of years ago I would be prone to agreeing with you, but right now there are a lot of people out of work who are taking any job they can find.

Save your dignity and work somewhere else besides McDonald's. Seriously, losing your pride is never worth it. Hookers get more respect in our society than fast food workers.

Just say you ran your own lawn mowing business, mowing the lawns in your neighborhood and those adjacent to it. That and occasional pool cleaning.
