After nearly 16 years of gaming i can say ive noticed the trend in violent games on the uprise since the 80's. Not that thats a bad thing, i rather do enjoy sawing someone up in Gears, or poppin' pedestrians in the back of the head while running in gta. But with thats said, and people like Jack Thompson and Hilary Clinton quick to blame peoples primal instinct on videogames. I question it. Like i said ive been playing for 16 years, from hitting blocks with my head, to suffocating thugs with a plastic bag. And i have never hit anyone in my life, not have i had the impluse to get into a fight, not even when i was in highschool (and thats when you kick ass or get your ass kicked) so can we really blame violence on videogames? or the Media of today? or mabey its the society we live in? what are your thoughts. Sure you can see someone get chainsawed in gears, or you can see it on the movie screen, but could you watch in in real life? Mature answers please.

I think using videogames as a scapegoat is BS. The same can be said about blaming music and movies.

I can't blame violence on games, professional wrestling made me violent. Watching people get hit by Lighttubes every day... before I could barely look at it.

violence has desensitised me to violence. Not movies, not games, not music. Violence itself. But, thats just me.

I can see how it would give people 'ideas', but I don't think it causes any actual harm.
I love violent video games, yet I still kinda feel bad when I kill bugs.:P

If anybody takes the violence seriously in video games, they are stupid and something is wrong with their heads.

People should be able to seperate violence in a game and in real life. If they're that incapable and, frankly, stupid, then there's no hope for them.

Yeah, they're called children, and they're the ones we're worried about.  As long as they keep getting their hands on games like GTA, this will continue to be a problem.

You know I can stomach a lot of violence on screen, but seeing the same thing in real life or real context is just too much, I mean I cringe everytime I see one of those kids get hit by a car in those public saftey ads (infact now I just change the channel whenever it comes on).

If I saw someone's head blown off with a shotgun in real life, I wouldn't handle it.

And video games don't kill people, people kill people.

Yeah, so have movies.

Critics and other people were saying Apocolypto was one of the most violent movies ever made.

When I got out I remember saying "It wasn't that violent."

So yeah...

I can play Gears of War, but if I saw someone chainsawed in half. I would run screaming my head off. So no, games haven't made me immune to violence or anything.

It's rated M for Mature, right?  Then they should be 18 before they can play it.

I am going to have to say yea. Ive seen some pretty sick stuff. Handled it fine. The only difference between the RL situation and a gaming situation is I try to help the person who had gotten injured, instead of being the one doing the injuring  but yea. I have seen real life, some extremely...ultra nasty things that would probably give the kiddies nightmares o_o

I wonder, within the next few generations when graphics are photorealistic and we have crazy things like curved monitors and soemthing like a more advanced wii remote, we will still be able to handle it.

For example, say in 15 years time we will be wearing some kind of headset as if we were in the game, and if you move then you move in the game if you get what I mean.

Now, if you had to stab someone in a game like that, and if the stabbing felt real, would we be able to handle it even if we knew it wasn't real?

my neighbor was desesnsitized to violence from videogames but also more then just that though... I mean he actually took a wooden stick and wanted to act like seprioth and actually beat the hell out of me. He called it "fun play" but it was a long time ago.

I think video games desensitize me to video game violence. I personally see the difference between violence in a video game and real life. I think younger kids that are in like 6th grade or younger might not really the difference. Maybe after a couple more generations of video consoles and we might see more stupid people getting fooled. Ya I think those politicians are retarded video games are not only for children. I really think a lot of those people just want to jump on the band wagon of anti-video games to make them look good to parents with kids. Keeping 5year olds away from Gears of War is a good idea but reading the rating thing parents. I do not think they are gonna do anything because the rating system has been working good. Honestly I had I read I was playing Vice City but it was weird. It was like I was the dude, on the virtual world.

Not quite as much as collecting the skins of children and wearing them while I watch the home shopping network at night.
