Consider the fact that there are approximately six billion people. With that in mind, do you really think you're special? I think we all have this idea that there's something special about us, compared to everyone else. However, when you keep the aforementioned fact in mind, that idea of being special should be shattered. I remember back when I was religious, I actually believed that I was so special, that God was literally next to me and watching over me, everywhere I went. Do any of you have this feeling of being special, compared to everyone else?

Just because there is a bunch of people itdoes not mean that anyone is less special. Being special is something completely different than the amount of people living.

What I mean is being genuinely special (i.e. better) than EVERYONE else. The thing is that everyone believes that, at one point or another in their lives. However, it's possible for ALL of use to be special at the same time. So, I conclude that no one is special.

In comparison to everyone else taking into account specialness in relation to the universe , friends , family , humans , earth , etc; I do not think I stand out from most everyone else. But that is perfectly fine. Am special to those that matter in my day to day life.

Hmm, am I special? No, do I think 99% of people are dumber than rocks, and very much possibly dumber than me in all ways, yes. Is my percent exadurated, maybe.

Unique- yes Special- No Different- definately I'm not some gifted being that god decided to bless this world with, but I'm not one of the generic souls doomed to mediocrity either.

I'm the only one that is myself. I feel my pleasures and pains to an immeasurably greater extent than I do others. In that respect, I would say yes.

I'm talking about special in the superlative sense. I mean LITERALLY being BETTER than everyone else. EVERYONE can't be BETTER than EVERYONE. That is paradoxical.

Ah...now we're getting more specific.

How would I go about determining that I am "BETTER" than any of the other billions of people on the planet?

well i wouldnt say special. i'd say lucky.

like i have a really low immune system and i get sick alot. like with the worst possible diseases at the worst possible times (like pneumonia when my white blood cell count is at an all time low, for example). yet, despite all the illnesses ive been through and the state of my immune system, i havent died or anything (came close a few times as a baby and as a little kid).

another example is how I try to scrape by with the bare minimum with everything in life (life in general). even though im an underachiever at nearly everything i do, i always get the best grades and i am always getting high honors awards.

also when it comes to girls, i have no problem attracting women. its keeping them thats the problem. like i get girls from different countries emailing me all the time to hit on me, yet i cant get a single date inmy own town.thats like a reverse of myluck though.

so i wouldnt say special, just really lucky.

We're all unique, but that doesn't mean you're special. I think to be considered special you need to contribute to humanity in some significant way, it's always a loss when those people die, but apart from family/close friends nobody gives a **** when regular people die.

What's so "elitist" about believing that no one is special? By believing that no one is special, I believe that everyone is equal. There's nothing elitist about believing in equality. What other threads of mine have come across as elitist?

I haven't twisted anything. All I've done is point out a flaw in your reasoning. How can believing in equality be elitist? That would be paradoxical.

I didn't say what you're talking about comes across as elitist, it's the fact that you view things differently and talk like your opinions are facts. Your opinions themselves don't bother me very much though I don't often see the reason behind discussing them at all :P

Wow. You don't see the reason behind discussing opinions on an "Off Topic" discussion board (i.e. a place where users can talk about anything not related to gaming). Wow. Just, wow.

Just because you CAN talk about it doesn't mean it's a great idea. I mean, everyone knows your views are unchangeable so debating is out of question. And the topics you choose always seem like you're trying to convert people to atheism or whatever your religion is. Though it wouldn't be so bad if I were to answer the thread just by the topic title then take off.

I assert that everyone is unique - one way or another - regardless of how small the world is. Everyone has their own idiosyncrasies, which make them different from one another. There is nothing that suggests the contrary.

I kind of get what you mean. For instance, TC's title is: "Do you think you're special?". Then, instead of saying that he does not feel special and why he does not, he goes out of his way to tell everyone that they are not special and that their feelings of specialness should be "shattered" by his point.

I can guarantee that 99% of those people I will never come into any sort of contact with, so they are not even worth comparing myself to. I don't think I'm better than everyone else but I can still allow myself to feel special because I am. So is everyone else on this earth, because people respond differently to different things and I would venture to say that no one is the exact same as someone else (key word exact). I find the notion that I'm not worth anything to be highly depressing, but at the same time I'm not a narcissist.

Yes, yes I am.

The first thing I had to endure was my mother's pre-natal smoking. As a result I was born with under-developed lungs and was placed in an special box for a few days. As a child I developed asthma, however due to my resilience, I defeated that evil foe. To this day, even without exercise I am able to run further than most people. My immune system has become incredibly powerful due to my utter hatred of hand sanitizers and habit of not washing my hands before dinner. I am also aware of schizotypal personality disorder, but I just go with the flow and work of constructing my survival pack anyway. Also, I know the meaning of life.
