Indeed, they make you from n00b to l33t in secs.

What does l33t mean? Seriously, I have no idea. I've asked people I know and they have no idea either.

lol what a n00b. :PSRSLY! :PYeah the first time you wake up form being knocked out you will start to realize the value of wearing a helmet.. And hold a few of your friends faces out of the pool of blood until the ambulance arrives will also inspire some rethinking of balancing safety and the "cool" factor... Helmets are smart and anyone who disagrees just doesnt know any better...warbmxjohnI remember when I used to ride BMX a lot, I didnt get enough speed up a hill and I fell back onto the asphalt. If it wasnt for the helmet I'd probably have a few stitches in the back of my head. Thing was when I'd do this stuff with my friends, if you stack they wont help. You gotta pick yourself up and continue.

wow I finally get how you know him. I have asked like three times and I think you never actually saw. Oh ahahaha... crap. I probably shouldn't have said that then. But whatever. Its not like he's important. When I used to skateboard I only wore helmets at skate parks, other then that you should be fine. My friend longboards though and has fallen one and banged up his body pretty bad. His hands and back were all cut up. I say it is a good idea to wear a helmet when longboarding since you can pick up some immense speed on them.AvistannNot to mention should some moron driving a car run into you.. You never know...
Helmets are not considered 'cool'; therefore, I do not wear them. I will not look like an idiot, which is far more important than staying safer.CptJSparrowthats totaly most skateboarders perception :|

you guys suck. SRSLY! :P
Im a beginner for longboarding/skating and I can balance on the board ( i no i no im noob ), but should I wear a helmet for longboard cruising? if im using it to go home from school and from places? people say I should but I dont think something crazy will happen and i wont be going down hills because that is scary as hell since there are no brakes. maybe ill wait for the 1st time I fall off the board and if i dont hit my head ill buy a helmet, I see tons of peopel that dont wear helmets for cruisingloginDude wear a helment you never know.... you know you could get hit by a car.. not just fall off
All of the longboarders I see around campus never wear helmets but I suggest that you do, especially if you're new at it. Besides just falling by yourself due to inexperience, you cannot always count on everyone around you to be aware of their surroundings. People often times are talking to their friends, texting on their cell phones, or are somehow otherwise distracted. Remember that those people can cause you to have an accident as well.
I keep the following in mind and always wear my helmet (even though I look like a complete dork): I can be lucky a thousand times (safe and accident-free), but I only need to be unlucky once. Walk away from a wreck with some cuts and bruises or potentially be carried away?
I've been street skating for about 6 years and in all that time have only bumped my head once.
I was going full speed in a parking lot and tried ollieing over a large gap.. hooked my board on the edge on the other side of the gap and instinctively rolled. I bumped my head slightly but besides that I was competely fine. You get a lot more minor wrist and leg injuries skating then anything else.
I'd recommend wearing a helmet for vert skating but not street.
