Like when you pull an all nighter? It's really a problem to deal with. I find myself rubbing them and doing all kinds of things to them to prevent that from happening, like putting a cold coke can up to my eyes. Ahhh.

Since there's nothing to talk about this late at night, talk anyway.

it's not just staying up late, it's doing anything which exposes your eyes to light for an extended period of time, they get dried out which is what causes the itching and stinging. eye drops are very good for this but that's only if sleep isn't possible.

it's times like these when the glass-eyed people of the world sit back and laugh.

Well i wouldn't say they sting but ache. It aches when they are open and aches when they are closed untill i can actually fall asleep. Its even worse when i haven't taken my contacts out for a few days and they are dry and sticking to the sides of my eyes.

Why no this has never happened to me when I stay up all night. If I'm exhausted generally I just get an oppressive headache.

Nope, but that usually happens when you're not used to pulling an all nighter.
