Do/did you hate pep rallies in high school?

I always hated going to these. Everyone in the school, all ~2,500 students crowd the halls, and make their way to the gymnasium like a bunch of sheep to watch all the popular kids parade themselves in front of everyone and finally watch the "king" and "queen" get crowned.

I had zero school spirit and I'm so glad I'm out. University is way better minus the cost.

Pep rallies, much fun. Loud music, everybody cheering, and having fun. Good times man, i enjoyed them. Especially getting to know the girly girls. Good old days.

How long ago were those?

Back in the days of D.O.C., why ? What has changed ? Lol .. My old line to the ladies was, " So ? Do you come here often ? " Lol .. They would always punch me in the arm. Then want to just squeeze. How can it possibly be now ? I wonder ? There was always a DJ, and it used to be outdoors in our school playground. I went to highschool in Potrero Hill San Francisco

"Hate" is a pretty accurate word for how I felt about pep rallies. Had way more fun cutting with the other "goth" kids in high school.

It's a dick measuring contest for the popular kids.

Maybe you should of traded your Xbox controllers for some shoulder pads and you could of been part of the parade. =(

Thankfully it was never a thing implemented when I went to school here in Norway.

i was indifferent about them in hs. having played sports they made us walk out during them but i never had much enthusiasm about it. if nothing else it got us out of class for a bit

They were stupid at my school mostly because we came last in every sport lol.

Pep rallies were make-out time. It's not like they took attendance, so I'd just grab my girl and saunter off.

Things may be different now. Hell, high school students aren't even allowed to leave campus for lunch anymore. I feel for the kids in this era...so much I took for granted. Like just getting detention for fighting instead of a fucking police record.

What the hell went wrong?

We need to protect our kids by ruining their future.

I'm so glad I didn't grow up in todays age...I'd probably still be in jail. Just one example I can give of how different things are...local cop caught me and some friends smoking a joint behind a building downtown (we were like 15). He made us drop the joint down a storm drain and said if he caught us doing that stuff again he'd give us a ride home. lol

They'd need 5 or 6 officers to deal with that situation these days, and someone might not make it out alive.

I enjoyed them as I thought they were kind of fun and a nice break from class.

I took pep rally days as the school's way of saying "Hey, you don't need to be here today. We know you don't give a rat's ass about the team or school spirit so go hangout somewhere with your friends and see if you can get a hold of some booze or pot."

I would typically walk home and enjoy the time off. I never went to pep rallies nor did any of my friends. Typically we would go and smoke some ganja for the afternoon.

wtf are you serious? I thought in the 90s/80s the law was tough on drug use regardless. Nowadays, I hear the exact opposite with officers not giving a shit.

Either you got lucky or I'm just wrong. Nowadays, you got kids getting their lives ruined by making a small mistake or even doing the right thing (kid turns in pocket knife and gets suspended for not turning it in sooner). It's bullshit. It's preventing the problem, nor is it making anything better. It only worsens the kid's perception of authority figures which leads to greater problems in the future.

And to stay on topic, I hate pep rallies.

Officers around here at the time didn't give a shit about a joint. Now if they caught you with an actual amount of marijuana it was a different story, or perhaps if they caught you repeatedly smoking weed. I don't know, I never got caught again.

Where I lived if you had a joint or two then it was a misdemeanor offense. It only got serious when you had enough that they thought you were dealing or if you were black, in that case you were screwed. Besides everyone always knew that the cops had the best stuff because they got to pick from what they confiscated.

Loved them - perfect opportunity to go home early. It's like having a short school day.

I only went during the fall season because our varsity teams had to walk out during them.

I skipped out during the winter and spring seasons.

I don't remember did I had multiple prep rally during the school year.

I was in the varsity team as a junior and senior. So, yeah. I only went when required though.

Well I was in the band playing music to help get people into an energetic mood, but I was never really into it. That being said they usually got me out of some class time so I always appreciated it.

My school had an entire Pep Week where everyone dressed up and looked ridiculous the whole week, and then we had to sit outside in costume everyday in the sun and watch the teachers be crazy and run around. At least one year we saw the snobbiest girl in the class get tackled by the school mascot.

It might be homecoming that they're talking about. At my HS, we had a pep week that culminated with a homecoming dance and football game.

I fucking HATE PEP RALLIES!!!! There are so stupid and boring. Pep rallies should never existed!!!

I hated everything to do with high school. Everything, and would take every opportunity to get away from it, or anyone associated with it, as much as I could. **** high school, a complete waste of time.

I was required to go to pep rallies. It was pretty loud that I would get constantly ear-raped, something I never consented to. Though I did see some really strange people across the room.... My eyes were not really that good so I could be imagining them.
