Does Amazon charge your gift card before or after a preorder ships out?

I'm wondering if i should check the box to use gift card. I'd rather it not be charged untill it ships.

I'm sure when it ships.

I just tried it out with White Knight Chronicles and it applies before. Well you can apply it anytime you want though.
