*CAUTION, MAY BE WHINEY*

I don't know man. I feel like I was born in the wrong era, or the wrong country.

Everyone in my school seems to like Metal/hard rock/rap.

Im all alone- I love British music, mostly 80's. Joy Division, New Order, The Smiths, Oasis, The Killers, Duran Duran... The great British synth pop, New Wave, alt rock.

I really don't like any classic rock, I dislike Guns and Roses, Zeppelin ect.. I'm not particularly huge on The Beatles, or any 60's band.

and no one likes any of my favorites. People say my taste in music sucks, and what can I say? I'm the only one who likes it.

I feel I would have been better off in 1980's Britian.

Its especially hard to start a band, even a terrible highschool band, when you don't share any influence with anyone.

I'm probably the only kid in my highschool who opted to buy a synthesizer, while everyone else bought guitars.

Does anyone else feel this way? Not necessarilly the whole British thing, but you don't fit in musically?

I listen to FOB, Yellowcard, and Hawthorne Heights, lol. But to be completely honest i don't care much about what people think, as long as i enjoy it, that's all that matters.

My school is full of preppies that listen to pop, pop rock (which they think is rock) and mainstream rap/reggaeton except for some individuals, I don't feel musically out of place, I just don't find modern music appealing.

Are you seriously so insecure you feel bad just because other people don't like the music you listen to? Screw them, just because you're the only one who listens to those bands doesn't mean your taste sucks, a girl once told me "your music is so crappy it doesn't even make it to MTV", have you any idea how stupid that statement and mentality are?

As for starting a band, if you don't get support from others just "go NIN" and do everything yourself. :P

Get out of here man... this thread is perfectly fine. To answer the topic of course man. I don't really wish I was born in any other time, but my likes are not the popular likes. I am glad I like what I like though. I feel sorry for the people who can't appreciate music. It does not matter what music you listen to, but not everyone sees music as something special.

i know what you mean. all my friends are into this whole screaming metal thing, like lamb of god and such. those bands are okay to me, but my favorites are the classics like the rolling stones, tom petty & the heartbreakers, stuff like that. if i want metal, my opinion on what metal is is much different. i much prefer the sounds of iron maiden or megadeth. if i want punk (which doesn't exist anymore), i can stick with the dead kennedys or the misfits. basically, just anything from the 60's to 80's is what i love. none of my friends share these opinions, and everyone in my school listens to mainstream rap or pop rock.

Well as far as I know, out of everyone I know, I'm the only person who would never listen to the radio. Its all blasphemy to the ears :P. Plus I'm in the very minor minority of people in my city who actually enjoy old traditional european folk music.

Funny how I had an argument with a friend of mine who thinks music isn't enjoyable without drums or some sort of beat

I feel more "musically" out of place among my friends because two of them are into screamo and the stuff similar to Devil Wears Prada, one of them doesn't really like anything thats hard, and the other absolutley refuses to call anything thats not oldies good music. I like bands not because what thye do is hard but because I like the sound and lyrics.

I know what you mean. Most people at school listen to preppy music or emo music. And I listen to Queens of the Stone Age, Foo Fighters, Nine Inch Nails, Against Me!, Modest Mouse, etc. When ever I am asked what my favorite band is, most of the time I answer and get asked "Who?"

 Pretty much all music has a beat, wether it has drums or not. If your friend actually thinks without drums there is no beat he must be "deaf" to music.

Well he is a drummer so I guess he is a little biased. But basically he ment percussioned beats, not every song has it.

Nah, they still manage to be better than most mainstream pop out there, stuff like hannah montana is just a cute plastic puppet set to dance to a catchy beat on a stage to make stupid teenagers wet their pants, it's marketing at it's purest.

It's not worse, it's just equally bad. Which is to say it doesn't get much lower. But they're not worse than each other.

Music is something that you have to find for yourself. If you like that kind of music, more power to you. In my opinion it just make you more unique.

If you like stuff like Joy Division, you should probably try listening to some more modern british indie music like the Libertines, or stuff like LCD Soundsystem. At least then you like some newer stuff and fools wont criticise you for being into the oldies.

Still, you really shouldnt care what they think any way. Music is music.

I honestly don't believe that, I'm mexican too and I know for a fact the only thing people listen to here is music in spanish, no one likes english music because they don't understand a single word that's being spoken, so all everyone listens to is cumbia, salsa, ranchera/norteña, and spanish ballads like Sin Bandera or other similar crap, it's annoying as hell.

At least that's the case down here in Mexico City, I don't know what it's like in Zacatecas, but I can't imagine it being too different.

I was born in Zacatecas but live in LA. So everybody here thinks that it is not normal for me to be listening to that kind of music just because I live in America. I really wish I was back in Mexico right now :(

If you like Joy Division you'd probably be in to new stuff like xiu xiu, deerhunter, a place to bury strangers and liars. Totally liars. One of the coolest bands existing right now. Or dig some weirder tunes by eat skull, demons, wolf eyes, and merzbow. Don't wish you were in another time or place. Look at how living in 80s england worked out for Ian Curtis. Most music that is truely exciting to me is being made right now. I'm excited to be a part of it. Make the most of whats in your town. There are probably some weirdos hanging around an arts collective somewhere putting on shows. Go to them.

I know how you feel. In my school, you were only "cool" if you listened to all that soulja boy, and lil' wayne ****

What sucks is that my school had a lot of Mexicans, yet all of them hated spanish music except for reggeaton :?

i was one of the few that listened to Camila, Reik, Mana, Juanes and other similar music.

There's always bands that can fit your taste nowadays. A very cool band who uses a lot of synth is "Midnight Juggernauts" check em out on youtube, you might like them. They're like Bowie mixed with Kraftwerk. I love em.

I hate almost all spanish music equally, and reggaeton has it's very own special spot among the things I despise the most in this world, very few things make me feel so frustrated and just plain uncomfortable than listening to reggaeton, I'd rather rip my ears off.

Pretty much the only spanish music I think is worth it would be Cafe Tacvba (before Cuatro Caminos, that is), Monocordio, early Zoé, Telefunka, Mägo de Oz, Mecano (some of it, at least), Moenia, and not much else comes to mind, really...

Why should he blog it...? It's a good question... Christ, don't crap your pants over it.

But I guess you could say I am a little. I'm into a lot of different stuff... For instance, Nine Inch Nails and Jay-Z are my favorite artists. I like industrial rock, old school hip-hop, classic rock, some modern and indie rock, R&B, and a little modern rap.
