All she did is speak her mind and everyone is freaking out. I just don't see the big deal. I mean the government has said it wrong to get married but when some kind girl says it its rude and mean.

I think it's stupid that people care so much about homosexual marriage.

I think it's dumb because it's she's just a contestant in a beauty contest...who gives a crap what she thinks? I know, she has a right to say what she wants, which is all good and fine...but seriously, who watches the Miss USA pagent in this day and age? Who really cares what she has to say?

God forbid in "the land of the free" a woman speaks her mind.

What makes it worse is this:

1. She said she supports the legal aspect of it. In short, she supports gays getting married

2. She said she personally does not support it.

I wish politicians could be that blunt.

Essentially what she said is "while I dont like what you say, I defend to the death your right to say it". America is a land of benefits and tradeoffs. We can stand her and say how much we hate homosexuals, yet at the same time we must support their decisions and legal rights, because we must uphold the ideal of being the Land of the Free.

To not do so is unamerican. I hate to toss that description around, but its true...if you dont tolerate gays in america, your a stinking conformist communist manipulated by Christianity!

It's to be expected; look at what happened to the people who supported Prop 8; it's not okay when someone speaks their voice on what they believe in, but it's perfectly fine for you to bash whomever doesn't have the same view as you into oblivion.

IMO I respect her opinion, even though I'm for gay marriage, and do like perez hilton, but the way she said things, the terminology used.. there was a longer video than that where she said more stuff, but IMO she just sounded like she had no idea what was coming out of her mouth (in the longer video) The thing that gets me though, is after all her nudes got leaked, and she does interviews without permission (in the miss usa contract it says that she has to get it) and she didnt get her crown taken away, that's stupid imo. Miss USA/cali should be somebody who people can look up to, not somebody who breaks their contract rules repeatedly.

No one is criticizing her because she spoke her mind. They're criticizing her because she has this opinion. They're probably glad she said it. They're doing exactly what it seems every other poster in this thread seems to be criticizing THEM for doing: speaking THEIR mind. And the personal attacks are probably because she did not only have a stupid opinion but sounded like an idiot and didn't manage to construct a coherent sentence. Not to mention she looked crosseyed while doing it. Stupid people generally have blank, vacuous eyes that go crosseyed when they're trying to say something intelligent.

That said, it's perhaps a good thing that she didn't win the Miss USA title. In view of the overtly religious remarks she has made in subsequent interviews, and her current relationship with conservative Christian movements, it seems very plausible that she would have used Miss USA status as a platform for her religious beliefs.

To understand why the gay community is so upset you have to realize that for them this is a civil rights issue. They view not having the same rights in marriage as straights do as the black community viewed segregation. Imagine the uproar from the black community in the 60s if Miss USA stated that she supported segregation. It may not be a civil rights issue for you, it certainly is for them.
