I'm dating myself here a bit, but I remember when dvd players pushed vcr's out the door. Even if you have one, is there ANYTHING new that's even available in VHS format???

VCRs don't have screens. They have outputs that can go to a screen >_>

I do, I threw one out, gave another away, and then realised I needed one to copy some VHS home movies DOH!

I too back the VCR/DVD combo player I bought my mother in law (the DVD bit stopped working) and bought her a DVD/digital set top box.

still haven't gotten around to copying those tapes though.

I have a 15" TV in my bedroom that has a built-in VHS player.

It's becoming more & more difficult to find tapes these days.

VCR

This is a VCR

VHS

The VCR plays VHS tapes like these...

Not to long ago these were standard for home video movie releases instead of DVD movies.

Back when I was younger I had an old TV. I used the VCR to play my video games through (it had the connectors I needed to play my SNES).

Those days are long gone.

ah, i did love my vhs. but no, i have switched over to digital media and havent looked back. i remember when "the crow" came out on tape and you could only rent it (unless you wanted to order a rental copy for like $150) then finding a used copy a year later for $20. it was awesome, i watched that movie a million times.

I still rewind DVDs - I figure it's polite for the next person. Having 16x scan helps. :|

Yes, I have a VCR, however, I NEVER use it. The quality is CRAP, and I cannot believe I ever used the thing. The only reason I did use thing in recent years is for means of recording, and even in that context, become useless, ever since I was introduced to the glory of DVR few months back.

We have a few VCRs in our house. DVD recorders aren't cheap, so we just haven't converted yet. We only use them for taping things off of TV, rather than watching old videos.

I can assure you millions of people still use a VCR, particularily VHS format. Recording shows on tape has an advantage over DVRs because you can carry the tape with you and watch it on a friend's VCR. Also, DVRs can only hold so much space. At least with tape, you can build up a library of recorded programs like I have.

We've still got one (well it's got a DVD player on as well) and if mum goes out but she wants to watch something she'll tape it. I just watch it on the catch up websites online (4OD, Five on Demand etc)

We have two or three. Originally we had two but they were both from a different country so they ran different formats, now their main purpose is for watching old videos (doesn't happen often) and collecting dust. The third VCR we have is used for taping the occasional show every now and then.
