I heard a song by Wiz Khalifa called "Phone Numbers" and loved it. I then decided to check out his album "Rolling Papers". I love it, but I am in the minority on the internet. Everyone on the internet loves his earlier stuff and says he has gone commercial, and tht "Rolling Papers" is a bad album. They talk about how good his mixtap "Kush and OJ" was and how "Rolling Papers" sucks. I personally feel the exact opposite. I only like a couple songs off "Kush and OJ".

I guess it kinda bugs me because if he really "sold out" or "went mainstream", does that mean I have bad taste in music. Why would he make his music worse than before to make people like me, like it. Unless he made it better, which most people online dont seem to think.

Anyone else like mainstream music?

Of course. Sure it may not be as timeless to me as their efforts before they went mainstream and can get a little repetitive at times(referring to Rap/Hip-Hop artist) but it's still pretty good.

All of Drake music before he went mainstream had so much soul and talent behind it that I literally thought he was the savior Hip-Hop and all that jazz -- fast forward and now he as basic as the rest of them. But still manage to drop some pretty hot tracks that I love. = )

Can you give me a example of Drake's old music having more soul. I mean off of his recent album "Take Care" songs like "Shot for Me", "Take Care", "Crew Love", and "Doing it Wrong", along with others, are very soulful. I am actually a big Drake fan but I really don't like his albums/mixtapes. His singles are my favorite though.

I feel Drake best music comes from when trying to find himself and the mixtapes more than anything represented that because he was really at those stages.

So Far Gone is him at his best with songs like Brand New, Best I ever had, Sooner than later, and of course Say what's real. Comeback season's Closer to my dreams is worth a mention as well; I could go on but you're probably already familar with them. You can still hear some of it in some of his mainstream songs like Light it up off thank me later and as you stated Doing it wrong off of take care -- but it's definitely not on the level it use to be IMO.

The only modern genre I listen to is Country, so yes, I like a lot of the mainstream music within it.

Mainstream = popular Popular = lots of people like it. Only people who don't like it, are just hipsters.

I like music that sounds good, really. Most of what's on the radio I can't stand because of the gross, flat, normalized mix that shoves the vocals in front ahead of anything resembling music or melody. It's like a contemporary christian mix, except worse cos it doesn't even have the excuse of trying to be boring and religious.

I do like some mainstream stuff like The Killers or the new 10 Years album. :I

That's a really good one.

Hard to pick favorites, but probably either Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner or Paschendale.

Not sure why but I was never as fond of Somewhere in Time. Much prefer Powerslave, Piece of Mind, Seventh Son, Killers, and even Number of the Beast.

Hmm, I am partial to Somewhere in time. Might even be my favorite album. That said, the only album of theirs I don't particularly care for is A Matter of Life and Death.

Nothing wrong with bands signing major labels and getting popular, it's when that decision starts to negatively affect the quality of their music and they lose their integrity as a band just to make more money, which usually happens.

I like Eminem if that counts. Only his early 90's stuff though. Like this..

I don't like the Bruno Mars and Rhianna features he gets on his albums now though.

Does it matter if people know about the album or not? The artist is very much mainstream.

Also the video has 4.2 Million views, that's pretty well known.

As much as I love the odd obscure band, there's plenty of decent (relatively) mainstream metal out there.

Nope. the closest thing to mainstream i have are a select few 80's new wave artists. But aside from that, it's all underground. I'm allergic to the radio.

Well I like Skream, Benga and deadmau5. They're kinda mainstream (deadmau5 is definitely mainstream)
